Typical bookies, they hate when you win and resort to banning people for doing so. Lose money and you're their best customer.
A gardener’s iPad showed she’d won £1.1 MILLION on a Paddy Power game. They paid her £20,265.14 and said the screen was wrong. Four and a half years later, a High Court judge ruled the screen was right.
– Corrine Durber was a gardener from Gloucestershire, England.
– In October 2020 she was playing a Paddy Power game called Wild Hatter on her iPad. It combines a fruit machine with a wheel-of-fortune bonus round.
– She won the first stage, moved to the next level, and spun the jackpot wheel.
– The screen showed the “Monster Jackpot” of £1,097,132.71.
– She took a screenshot.
– Paddy Power paid her £20,265.14, the amount for the smaller “Daily Jackpot,” and gave no explanation.
– She complained to the company the same evening.
– Paddy Power said a programming error had made the screen show the wrong prize. Its random number generator, it said, had only selected the Daily Jackpot.
– Its terms and conditions said the generator’s result was final and that it wasn’t liable for system errors.
– That was the whole problem. Paddy Power wrote the game, ran the software that picked the result, wrote the rules, and then decided which number counted when its own screen disagreed with its own system.
– A prediction market doesn’t work that way. There’s no house writing the game or choosing the result afterward.
– You trade against another person at a price someone actually agreed to, and your payout comes from the person on the other side, not from a company deciding the number on your screen was a mistake.
– She sued for breach of contract.
– In March 2025, Mr Justice Ritchie granted summary judgment in her favor, so there was no full trial.
– His 62-page ruling found that human error in mapping the game’s software caused the on-screen result to differ from the generator’s. It affected 14 plays over 48 days.
– The judge said customers expect the house to pay if they bet on number 13 and the ball lands on 13.
– He found the terms unfair and unenforceable under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and not part of her contract.
– He also said it was unfair to place all the risk on the consumer for the company’s own errors, negligence, and inadequate testing.
– She said the judge confirmed she had “fairly and squarely won £1 MILLION.”
– She said Paddy Power had “tried their very best to deny me my rightful winnings.”
– She said she would never bet with them again.
A gardener hit £1.1 MILLION on her iPad, was paid £20,000 instead, and spent four and a half years in court proving the screen was right.

Big Corp seeing pushback against them, no support other than the gravy train. The treatment of punters has been abhorrent. A gambling commission not fit for purpose, a racing regulator likewise. Imagine any other industry where the paying public are treated in such a way?

Where is the Gambling Commission's social responsibility?
Does accountability not apply to them?
Many warned this was coming...
Who's protecting consumers now?

Have been told that even after going on live chat, Betway traders are still refusing to settle horses balloted out of the Ayr Gold Cup as void @Alan_Alger_
Traders quoting point 2, ignoring point 9
Replying to @betway
@betway @BetwaySupport All horses that ran in the Ayr Silver Cup were balloted out of the Ayr Gold Cup and therefore were not losers. Please re-settle your ante-post markets

I am saddened & quite ashamed of British Racing today 😢
I had the chance to gift my @RacehorseOwners badge to someone that needed it @DoncasterRaces today.
Said person got refused entry & had a stressful experience to boot.
This tweet will be long so read on 👇
1. Usually I wouldn't do this, but I wasn't able to attend and so I thought giving someone my badge wouldn't be an issue.
2. The fact that @AtTheRaces @SkySportsRacing were giving free tickets out anyway (Mr Buckley missed the deadline for this), makes this even more infuriating!
3. I do not have a runner on the day, and so the badge was not full O&T. Likely a premier badge with a racecard.
4. 'Acting on an owners behalf' is usually accepted, so why is this any different? I did not have the ability on PASS to give any name other than my own.
The man just wanted to go and enjoy racing at a course he has been to for 40+ years.
Why are we making it so difficult for people?
I set up @DigiRacing in the hope that we could promote horse racing to more people, get more people into the sport and help as many as possible get maximum enjoyment out of their racing.
This is just a kick in the teeth to everything we are trying to do.
This isn't me moaning. This is me asking for change. Let's sit down and work out how we can improve & make racing better and more accessible for everyone!
@arenaracingco @GBRacing
I dont want to cause any hassle for @19Rich_ as he was very kind, he had sorted my dad to basically use his owners badge, dad had all details, dad would have been happy just getting in but they just refused
They might say rules are rules but it doesn't feel right at all

Well done to the runner-up's jockey for dropping his whip (not Pro Cush) when having the Ebor at his mercy there. And, yes, I did back Hopewell Rock, which gives me even more reason to have a justified moan-up.

A man won £12,500 at William Hill. When he went to collect the rest of his cash, staff pressed the panic button and called the police on him twice.
– In August 2023, Michael placed three bets totalling £2,400 in cash at a William Hill shop in Harrogate. The bets were on two tennis matches and one football game.
– All three came in. His total return was approximately £12,500.
– He first went to the Starbeck branch. Staff only had £5,500 in the till, so they paid him that amount. Michael even left a £110 tip for the staff.
– The next day he went to the Harrogate Spa branch to collect the remaining £6,500+.
– Within roughly one minute of asking for his money, a staff member pressed the emergency panic button and called the police.
– Officers arrived. One of them told Michael on camera: “He hasn’t got the cash to pay you out.”
– Staff tried to force him to accept a bank transfer and hand over personal details. Michael refused, insisting that because he paid in cash he was entitled to be paid in cash.
– Police were called a second time during the dispute. Michael filmed both encounters.
– He was left with two unpaid betting slips still showing “Good luck!” printed by William Hill.
He won the money fair and square with cash bets. The bookmaker’s response was to treat him like a criminal and call the police for trying to collect what he was owed.

Hi @andyburnham we pay £60 a month for Sky Sports and TNT Sports, yet that still only gives us access to 70% of the games.
Meanwhile, fans in Singapore pay £25 a month and can watch every single match.
This is the English league, yet English fans are paying more and getting less. Surely that can’t be right.
Please can you look into this and make the coverage fairer for fans in England?
We shouldn’t have to pay a premium just to watch our own league. No wonder many fans buy dodgy firesticks!

I’ll pick one winner on Monday 17th September… 🍀
Hoped I'd never need this thread again. We have a new contender. @AKBets — winning withdrawal pending, locked out of my account, and instructed to reply to an email I've never received. £2.5m to buy 45 pitches last week; £2,400 to pay one punter, apparently a struggle. Let the games begin.
Update: I've been paid in full 🙏
I couldn't buy a drink for everyone who got behind this, so I've made a small donation to the @IJF_official on behalf of all of us, for the brave men and women who risk their lives for the sport we love.
I can't thank each of you individually, but the shares and the noise are the only reason this moved. Without X I'd still be sat playing tennis with a support inbox. The reach quietly got the right people involved behind the scenes. Genuinely, thank you folks 🐎🐎
