This.
The issue with people “letting AI do the reading for them” is that a society that does not read is a society that can’t think critically. It can be easily manipulated by authoritarians. When we don’t read we are less informed, more dependent on tech tools, and more compliant.

Potentially hot take on AI: I think it’s going to create a level of “learned helplessness” the likes of which we’ve never seen

I need someone to explain to me why it’s always “if you can’t pay rent, buy fewer lattes and avocado toasts” and not “if you can’t pay your employees a living wage, buy fewer yachts and real estate”. Explain it to me like I’m in kindergarten.

Next year, 2025, is the only square year most of us will see in our lifetimes (45 x 45). The last was 1936 (44 x 44), the next is 2116 (46 x 46).

47 years ago, Bing Crosby, in his final Christmas special, teamed up with David Bowie in one of the most wholesome and beautiful duets of all time. Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy.

The fact that the tech industry has released an ‘innovation’ with unclear benefits that is so energy-intense that it delays the retirement from coal at a time when we urgently need to phase out fossil fuels, leaves me speechless. Great work, @SashaMTL! wired.com/story/true-cost-ge…

It's important to remind people of the true meaning of Christmas; ghosts terrorising rich people in the middle of the night until they agree to pay their employees more.

This piece is extraordinary. Devastatingly honest, moving & unflinching on assisted dying, motor neurone disease, palliative care & a beloved father’s slow demise. There is nothing more profound you will read all week. Heartfelt thanks, @sjblakemore. Please read.
