Interested in joining our group here in Cambridge and doing a PhD on large-scale remote-sensing, multihazard analysis and modelling, or other hazard/risk projects? We have various funding schemes for local & international students, due in early December. Get in touch to discuss.

This is a shame given how important interdisciplinary working has become both in academia and outside of it. It is also sad for those who will miss out on the joy of thinking in different/plural ways! And as Steve says, thinking across domains is critical for societal progress.
One point highlighted by @BritishAcademy_ , is decline of students combining arts & humanities with sciences. This is a shame as these subjects are important & a successful society & economy needs generalist equipped to think creatively across boundaries theguardian.com/commentisfre…

*Cronch* I ran over a rock and found crystals inside! It's pure sulfur. (And no, it doesn’t smell.) Elemental sulfur is something we’ve never seen before on Mars. We don't know much about these yellow crystals yet, but my team is excited to investigate. go.nasa.gov/4bPdSow

The UK has a great deal of expertise in disaster risk and resilience, as well as in public health emergency management. The #CovidInquiry results show the importance of an integrated system that supports resilience building across health and other kinds of risk. /1

Challenges together to reduce vulnerability and enhance resilience. This was lacking for political reasons - both short term (the 2019 govt in particular) and longer term (austerity). If we want to be in a stronger position next time /7

Then government must embrace the expertise available to it and listen and learn not only from experts but from other countries and events. We must prepare for a multi hazard, multi risk future, and that should inform what we mean by resilience going forward. /end
