English has many pairs of words where '-th' was once added to make a noun out of the other, like 'width' and 'wide'. My favourites are the ones for which the link may not be obvious now, like: - 'mirth' and 'merry' - 'drought' and 'dry' - 'filth' and 'foul' - 'sloth' and 'slow'

There is a monster leak of Arctic air heading towards the whole of North America. Many places will experience -20C. These leaks are becoming more frequent as the jet stream weakens. This is a new climate. The stability of the Holocene is over.

Great thread on income inequality US vs EU: 1. Pre-tax: US much more unequal 2. Tax: The US tax system much more progressive (!) 3. Post-tax: tax system not progressive enough to reverse huge inequality gap Conclusion: It is about pre-distribution, not redistribution.
So happy to see our article forthcoming at AEJ: Applied 🥳 This was the very first paper I ever worked on, quite a journey since we started collecting data in 2017 with @thomas_blncht and @lucas_chancel! Here are five facts that we uncover about income inequality in 🇪🇺 and 🇺🇸: 👇

This is an intriguing idea, but I think it may be a misinterpretation. First of all, only one of the OED’s early citations of the phrase ‘knocked up’ is related to slavery. The others, including the earliest recorded use, are not. 1/5
