My love for using props when teaching archaeological theory knows no bounds. Even when the days are short and cold. Is it too late to start using #archaeologicaltheorycanactuallybefun

We're back! After a few years away, NEBARSS will return, to the University of Bradford on 11th and 12th April 2025. If you're a PhD or Early Career Researcher concerned with the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age of Britain, Ireland or continental Europe, keep an eye on this space.

And the pleasure was all mine 😊 What a fantastic event this was, artist and archaeologist in conversation, discussing one of my favourite landscapes, the incredible Walton Basin/Radnor Vale

Wow, talk about full circle... 11 years ago, as an undergrad at Worcester, I was one of a handful of @nationaltrust volunteers embarking on a pilot scheme for Heritage and Archaeology Rangers at Croome. Now I'm helping to roll out the scheme & manage teams in the South West! 😍

nature.com/articles/s41586-0… Visions of grumpy Neolithic farmers in Britain, driven by their feelings of guilt and anxiety to build more elaborate monuments, never quite managing to satisfy their internal critic, haunted by the knowledge that they could build something even bigger.

Ah, no place like home…
17th century poetry often describes the people of the Welsh Marches, including Shropshire & Herefordshire, as lawless, monstrous hybrids who belong to neither England nor Wales & were extremely proficient in cursing. This was achieved by falling to the knees & shouting profanity

Early-middle Bronze Age double ‘echinoid burial’ from Dunstable Downs was a of a girl and her paternal aunts, while a very similar burial from Altwies in Luxembourg was mother-son, interesting broader discussion too! nature.com/articles/s41598-0…

Really important news, this means the records for archaeological sites used in UK planning decisions are now protected by law. Let's hope this will improve funding and support for the professionals who maintain and interpret them as well as resources to enhance them.
HOT OFF THE PRESS – The Levelling-Up and Regeneration Bill has become an Act, giving Historic Environment Records (HERs) statutory protection in law: bills.parliament.uk/bills/31…! Find out more about @WestBerkshire Council's HER, which we maintain, here: westberks.gov.uk/her. 😀
