Today, I’m going to give you ten years of healing in a couple of minutes.
I'm a brain surgeon, and I'm gonna show you how to make rapid progress in healing the wounds you’ve been carrying; the ones from childhood, from broken relationships, from things said that can’t be unsaid, and from things done that can’t be undone. Let's scrub in and get it done.
Here's a Fact: Your Wound Lives in Your Brain, But Your Healing Lives in Your Mind
When something hurts you, your brain stores it. The sights, the sounds, the sting of the words, the shape of the moment. That storage is real and physical.
But here’s where the hope of healing lies: your brain doesn’t get the final vote on what that memory means to you. Your mind does. And your mind is not the same thing as your brain.
Neuroscience nugget: Emotional memories get encoded in circuits involving the amygdala and hippocampus, but each time you recall a memory, it becomes temporarily unstable and gets rewritten via a process called reconsolidation. That means every time you revisit a wound, you have a fresh chance to change how it’s stored.
Self-Brain Surgery Procedure: The next time an old wound surfaces, don’t just relive it. Instead, reframe it while it’s “open.” Ask: What is the truest, most redemptive way to understand this moment now? Speak that new understanding out loud before you let the memory close back up.
Scripture: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3, NIV
This is self-brain surgery. Hard and holy work.
Follow me to connect neuroscience and scripture every day. Save this to help when you need to heal. Share it with a friend who's hurting.

FEAR OR RESPECT? THIS MAN CHOSE RESPECT.
Most people would run the other way if they saw a stingray this size. This man got down on his knees, carefully removed a fishing hook from its mouth, and returned it to the ocean.
Stingrays can be dangerous when threatened, but they’re not out looking to hurt people.
What impressed me wasn’t just his courage. It was his patience and compassion for a creature that couldn’t help itself.
Sometimes respecting nature means helping it survive, not fearing it.

John’s intro for Standing on the Moon from 6.5.23 in Burgettstown, PA💙
This song became a postcard from a person who wasn’t on Earth anymore, but we got the sense they were safe, in a better place with a better vantage point. Bob & Jerry are on the moon sharing the binoculars🥹

John ends what has been a very special
GDLP with One More Saturday Night from 7.31.74 in Hartford, CT❤️
He has a memory of playing this song in 2016 where he saw Bobby as 20 year old with brown hair. Bob told John he had a vision of seeing him with grey hair playing in D&C🤯

It's frustrating when you keep trying to make changes in your life only to wind up exactly like you were before. You may start to think that, "This is just how I am."
If that sounds like you, I've got good news:
Your brain changes every day based on what you rehearse. The science is on your side, and your creator has something to say about it too.
1 John 3:2 and 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV) say you're still becoming.
Neuroplasticity shows how that can happen in the brain. Neuroscience has a elucidated the mechanism, and it's been built into your design all along. You've never been stuck, your brain has just been waiting for you to tell it who's boss.
Save this for the next time you feel stuck, share it with a friend who needs to know it as well.
Follow me, and together we will build better brains every single day by smashing neuroscience, and faith together.
