"$6 Canadian Oil Stock to Hit $12 By Next Friday" A price. A target. A deadline. Vague promises make readers skeptical. Specific ones make them check the calendar. Specificity is the cheapest proof you'll ever buy.

"500 Beta Testers Wanted" It was a sales letter for an options service. Nobody wants to be sold. Everybody wants to be picked. Turn your offer into an invitation. Then put a limit on it.

"It's 8:30 a.m. and already 75 degrees." No mention of money. No mention of retirement. The reader puts himself on that patio and does the math himself. Show him the morning, not the method.

"My Top 5 'Cracker Jack' Stocks for 2007" Remember the prize in every box? That's a dividend. I never had to say "income." His childhood said it for me. Borrow a memory your reader already loves. Let it carry your promise.

I sold a joint-pain book with this headline:
"When the pain in my mom's hands was so bad that she couldn't pick up her reading glasses, I was determined to find her a cure."
Every reader pictured his own mother.
Don't describe the pain. Show who it's hurting.

"Time to Take Profits? NO WAY!" Same letter that was already winning. I changed one thing: the headline. The reader was sitting on gains, itching to cash out. I argued with the voice in his head. Don't rewrite a winner. Re-aim it.
