Exclusive from me: Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) plans to run as the top Democrat on the House Antitrust Subcommittee. But corporate America is likely to scramble to find someone more to their liking to challenge her, who has called for aggressive antitrust enforcement and new laws.

This puts immense pressure on members of the future House Judiciary Committee, particularly its likely next chair Rep. Jamie Raskin, who would hold immense influence over the process.

This is an important story but it's complicated.
tl;dr: Trump is using broadband funding grants to stop enforcement of all state-level internet regulations for 14 years. California is the last state to decide whether to go along. It's Newsom's call. 🧵prospect.org/2026/10/19/trum…

Today, the @FTC sued to block a merger that could potentially harm parents, our children, our schools and churches, and our communities.
“Playgrounds are an indispensable part of daily life for millions of American kids and their families. And state and local governments spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars each year on playgrounds so that their communities have places for kids to play safely,” said Daniel Guarnera, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition.

So Becca Balint is going to run as the top Dem on the House Antitrust Subcommittee, which is more important than you may think. Balint's great, her potential foe Lou Correa is...not, & fighting Trump corruption/the oligarchy runs through this subcommittee.

One alternative to Balint could be Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA), a moderate who has previously led it and has opposed legislation coming from it targeting Big Tech. Even without Correa, corporate America is likely to scramble to find someone more to their liking to challenge Balint.
