Always a privilege discussing the stories that matter most to me. 🤲🏿
In 1987, Ruthie May McCoy called 911 to report that someone was trying to break into her Chicago apartment through her bathroom mirror. Days later, she was found dead. McCoy’s story inspired, in part, a cult classic film. @Dometi_ hosts and co-executive produces “Candyman,” a @48hours podcast that investigates McCoy’s case.

Ava DuVernay remembers Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday, honoring the humanity, dignity and respect she brought to film criticism, even when she didn’t love a movie. In conversation with IndieWire’s Chris O’Falt at Art of the Doc, presented by National Geographic Documentary Films, DuVernay reflects on the relationship between filmmakers and journalists and the importance of telling people’s stories with care. #AvaDuVernay #AnnHornaday #IndieWire

The guy who created Squid Game lost eight teeth from stress while making Netflix billions. His cut of the upside was zero dollars. That's the deal Netflix gives everyone. They pay around 110% of your budget upfront, take the IP, and keep every dollar your hit earns for the rest of time. Your show can be the biggest thing on the planet and you get the same check as if it flopped. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon just broke that deal. Their studio, Artists Equity, sold The Rip to Netflix in January with a clause Netflix had never accepted before. They took less money upfront in exchange for a bonus if the movie performed in its first 90 days. It pulled 112 million views in six weeks. The bonus hit. And they split it with the crew, so the grips and gaffers got checks because a streaming movie did numbers. Animals, the one Netflix is promoting here, is the next film under that structure. Affleck wrote the lead for Damon, lost him to Nolan's Odyssey, and just played the part himself rather than delay the shoot. When you own the studio, recasting the lead is a decision you make in the mirror. Netflix said yes because they had to. Every other studio is chasing franchises, so the handful of people who still make prestige adult dramas suddenly have pricing power. Affleck and Damon took the Silicon Valley trade, lower salary for equity, and ran it in the one industry that spent 15 years stripping equity out of talent deals. Hollywood lost its backend when streaming killed box office points. These two are quietly rebuilding it.
When their son is kidnapped, a politician and his wife scramble to raise the ransom and make decisions that could tear their world apart. Ben Affleck, Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Adriana Paz star in ANIMALS. Now playing.

😂😂😂 Also…PR training is about more than being evasive. It means redirecting your answers while still showing some personality and giving the outlet something to work with to help promote your art. There were so many opportunities to loosen up and redirect the convo with humor.
This is how PR trained I am 😭

Barack Obama at his last press briefing with reporters, 2017: "I have enjoyed working with all of you. That does not, of course, mean that I've enjoyed every story that you have filed, but that's the point of this relationship. You're not supposed to be sycophants. You're supposed to be skeptics. You're supposed to ask me tough questions. You're not supposed to be complimentary, but you're supposed to cast a critical eye on folks who hold enormous power."

NYC is now considered humid subtropical. Yes, NYC. Subtropical. I grew up with snowy winters. My kids are growing up in a different New York. This is bigger than nostalgia. It’s about climate and health. Source: NYC PlaNYC/NCA #DrUcheBlackstock #UcheBlackstock #DrUB

Snoop Dogg bought Death Row Records in 2022. Four years later, it’s worth taking a look at what he’s actually built with the label since taking the reins. It’s not just nostalgia bait. Death Row is putting up real numbers and putting records on the charts again. They’re developing artists, bringing West Coast veterans home and turning the iconic logo into a full-blown lifestyle brand. 🧵

I believe it. She was confused in the “ad.” She literally says she doesn’t know what the hell is going on. lol
EXCLUSIVE: Suno has pulled a controversial ad featuring Mary J. Blige after learning it had struck a business deal with someone falsely presenting themselves as her official representative: • The ad, which sparked a wave of online backlash against Blige, showed the R&B singer seemingly endorsing the AI music generator and praising an AI-generated song that closely resembled her work • In a statement to Variety, a rep for Suno wrote: “We entered into a business deal with someone who presented themselves as Ms. Blige’s official representative. As soon as we learned this was not the case, and that Ms. Blige was uncomfortable, we terminated the advertising campaign.” variety.com/2026/digital/new…

I don’t think Ms. Blige knows what’s going on in them contracts baby & that’s really the bigger issue.
