Imagine how much trust medicine could regain if we said this clearly:
No more coercion.
Educate people. Discuss the benefits and risks. Answer hard questions without contempt. Make a recommendation. Persuade when the evidence is strong.
Then respect informed consent and personal choice.
Imagine how much trust medicine could rebuild if we returned to that.
I don't buy this at all. Anyone who ran the "take it or kill grandma" scheme does not deserve my respect.
