In her July 30 article for the Carnegie Endowment, “The Board of Peace Plan for Gaza,” Hassan details the Board’s proposals to seize Palestinian land and property for Gaza’s redevelopment: ➤ Private property: The leaked GREAT Trust proposal recommends confiscating all public land and potentially all privately owned Palestinian property. ➤ Homes: Palestinians would be expected to surrender their property rights in exchange for replacement housing in Gaza, which could take two to eight years, or accept a resettlement package abroad. ➤ Land seizures: Other redevelopment proposals call for expropriating privately owned Palestinian land and forcibly relocating its owners. ➤ Public Land: A leaked draft resolution would allow the Board to acquire public land and property in Gaza free of charge. carnegieendowment.org/resear…

Israel has banned the entry of toilet seats and portable toilets into Gaza, classifying them as "dual-use" military items, as it does with sleeping bags, tarps, and wheelchairs. More than nine in ten Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced, most living in tents, after Israel destroyed over 90 percent of the territory's homes and infrastructure. The result: 87 percent of Gaza's households have no proper access to a toilet. Families dig holes in the sand behind a curtain. Sewage seeps into the soil beneath the tents, contaminating the ground and turning entire displacement camps into health hazards, spreading disease, skin infections, and contaminating water sources. A used, damaged toilet seat now sells for up to $700 in Gaza, when one can even be found. Israel has a ceasefire obligation to allow trade and basic goods into Gaza. It is using "dual use" as an excuse to deny two million displaced people a toilet seat.

The World Health Organization has officially announced that, starting September 19, 2026, it will stop supplying fuel to more than 20 hospitals and health centers in the Gaza Strip because the Israeli occupation forces are preventing fuel from entering the Strip. This means that most hospitals and health centers are at risk of shutting down completely, leaving thousands of patients, wounded people, and injured civilians alone to face death, deprived of even the most basic medical care and treatment. Imagine being a patient, a wounded person bleeding, or a child struggling with pain, only to have the hospital doors closed in your face because the fuel needed to power life-saving equipment is being prevented from entering. In Gaza, people are not being besieged by bombs and airstrikes alone. They are also being besieged by the denial of medical care and their right to survive. What patients, wounded people, and injured civilians are enduring here is not a passing hardship that the world can simply ignore. It is a humanitarian catastrophe threatening the lives of people whose only “crime” was wanting to live. What kind of world leaves a sick person to die because there is no fuel to keep their hospital running? What kind of conscience can remain silent in the face of this slow death.!!!

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is a pediatrician who has been detained by the Israeli government for nearly two years without being charged or a trial.  I’m very concerned about reports by Amnesty International and other human rights monitors that he has suffered severe abuse and has not received appropriate care for his deteriorating and life-threatening health conditions.  I am calling on Secretary Rubio to work with the Israeli government to release Dr. Abu Safiya so he can get the urgent medical care that he needs READ MORE: abcnews.com/International/69…

Israel just demolished a 120-year-old home in Ni’lin because it didn’t have a building permit. The house was built around 1906. The State of Israel was founded in 1948. The occupation of the West Bank began in 1967. So the paperwork they demanded was issued by an authority that didn’t exist when the walls went up. Bold bureaucratic innovation: retroactive zoning for a country that arrived later than the stone. Imagine the clerk: “Sir, we’re going to need the Ottoman-era permit, the British Mandate stamp, and the Israeli one you never applied for because we hadn’t invented ourselves yet. Also the land is now strategically important. Have a nice day.” Nothing says “rules-based order” like fining a building for missing a form that predates the form-maker. Next they’ll ticket the olive trees for growing without a 2024 agricultural license. Free Palestine. And maybe start requiring permits for founding states on other people’s already-built villages.
