Yes, it's #IndependenceDay today ... not that one though!
Now two years since I stepped away from full time clinical work in the #NHS

Dispatches on C4 24/06 is going to be a difficult watch. Working in EM feels like a war and it brutalises many staff. Please remember these are caring professionals whose work environment prevents them doing the job they were trained to do, but they still come back day after day.

As I watch this, and it’s a difficult watch for anyone who cares deeply about the NHS, I have to say (again) I’m very impressed by Dr Adrian Boyle @RCEMpresident
We need more senior leaders calling out terrible standards in the NHS, speaking truth to power.
All College Presidents (and AoMRC) should #BeMoreAdrian
Thank you Adrian for all that you do
Over two months, a Dispatches reporter has filmed secretly while working in a major NHS A&E department. The undercover footage exposes the suffering and dangers patients face on a daily basis.
WATCH 'Undercover A&E: NHS in Crisis' tonight on @Channel4 at 9pm.

HOWEVER, the solutions to the inhumane situations that patients experience in emergency departments lie largely outside of emergency medicine. Risk needs to be shared across the entire hospital whilst system solutions are prioritised by NHS Leaders & Politicians #notjustmoremoney
James McFetrich retweeted
This isn't winter, this isn't one A&E, this isn't one system. It's everywhere, and it is entirely avoidable by prioritising safe & dignified emergency care. Stop blaming patients and driving "efficiency" and "redirection" - whole system approach is not just the front door...
What has been seen today on @C4Dispatches is sadly not isolated. Our members are doing their best in a system in crisis. It should galvanise those who form the next Goverment into action. This is not okay. This should not be normalised. Patients & our members deserve better

It's not good to make a mistake - especially in medicine - affecting one person.
Possibly better than making a mistake in front of 33 million people at the Oscars in 2017.
I discuss this in this week's #KCCpodcast

I love linking my podcast to others.
This week's episode of #KCCPodcast is all about #error, specifically #medicalerror.
For something different, have a listen to @TimHarford at his brilliant "𝘊𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴" podcast, S4 E7 about the Oscars mix-up of 2017.
