#ChronicPain affects 41% of Canada's 670,000 Veterans. Almost 2/3 of Veterans with chronic pain also have a diagnosed mental health condition. Pain can interfere with work, make it more difficult to adjust to civilian life, and causes stress and activity reduction. #NPAW2024

ā€˜Weird little creations’: Jason Nuttle, a senior in Yale College, combines engineering with an artistic flair to create ingenious contraptions. Nuttle, a double major in engineering sciences and art, aims to evoke life’s sweetness and absurdity in the ā€œautomataā€ he makes — a stricken songbird, a self-typing keyboard trapped in an indecisive loop; a randomly gesturing robotic hand. His work, largely produced in his spare time, demonstrates the many resources available to help Yale College students develop their talents and pursue their interests outside of the classroom. Nuttle made his automata with funding from Yale College’s Creative and Performing Arts Grants, which are awarded through the residential colleges each semester to support on-campus artistic endeavors: bit.ly/3zVhwk8 @YaleEngineering #Yale

Nearly 5 years after COVID-19 first struck, emergency departments remain bogged down by long wait times. At the start of this year, only 1 in 10 Ontario hospitals met the provincial target waiting time for patients with serious conditions, compared with 25% before the pandemic.

Interviews with key experts show that while primary care is well-positioned to handle OUD, issues like lack of resources, inadequate support, and overly restrictive policies are major barriers to effective care. #OUDCare #OpioidTreatment #PublicHealth

To improve care, we need to embed OUD treatment into primary care and address the "regulatory cascade" that limits access. It’s time to rethink how we approach OUD policy and better support primary care systems. @UofTFamilyMed @HRHealth_
