I’m so excited to finally share this: I’m writing a book. It’s about Oakland—its rise as a great American sports town, its fall to the billionaires who abandoned it, and, most of all, the fans and activists and founders who fought to hold onto this aspect of the city’s history, identity and soul.
I aim to get it all: what happened, how it happened, and why it matters not just to A’s, Raiders, Warriors, Roots and Ballers fans, but sports fans (and taxpayers) everywhere.
I’ve been working on this for a long time already, and though there’s still a long way to go, I’m so excited for you all to read it. Let’s Go, Oakland. I hope it does you justice ⚾️

It's so weird that amidst the 21st century tech boom, the Bay Area has actually *lost* pro sports teams since apparently none of these tech geniuses is normal enough to want to be a local hero and own a baseball team.

This seems like a very bad idea.

It's finally here: publication day for This One Will Be Different.
Why do cities keep spending billions on stadiums despite decades of evidence that they don't deliver the promised benefits?
I wrote a book about it. Hope you'll check it out! jcbradbury.com/towbd/

It’s pub day! Please support these amazing writers and buy wherever you buy books! @TriumphBooks 💜💜💜 This series has meant a lot to me over the years. I write a passionate essay about the need to continue sports writing.
Lumen Field was publicly funded. The Seahawks just won the Super Bowl. The team has sold out every home game going back decades.
Extortion has become a base element of the experience of being an American sports fan and it’s crazy we continue on this way.
The Seahawks' lease expires in 2032, and while Vinod Khosla has extension options all the way to 2062, he's presumably at least thinking about what he can demand in exchange for not threatening to leave town in six years. fieldofschemes.com/2026/10/0…
Mark Davis's Faustian Bargain. Abandoning Oakland for LV has earned Davis ~ $10b and counting. All he had to do was sacrifice forever the integrity of being a Raiders fan.
I've spent a decent amount of time reporting in / writing about Cleveland Browns fans over the last few years. They deserve this. If the Browns ever do win a Super Bowl, Cleveland might just explode.
this, like everything @redford writes, is great.
San Francisco and Oakland feel more different during this tech boom than during either previous one. Why?

MPU is #1. We’ve added 1.4 million subscribers this year, won a second Emmy and there’s lots more to come.
📊 @MorePerfectUS was once again the fastest-growing political or political-adjacent YouTube channel in the US last quarter, pretty much tied with @TPUSA.

Steph Curry’s greatness earned this. A chance to go out how he wanted.
And he wants to end it here.

Why didn't more reporters cover the Clippers story?!

This is a great piece at detailing the problem, but it really surprises me how much Americans are not willing to have the "how do we fix this obvious problem of society" conversation
