It's so weird that amidst the 21st century tech boom, the Bay Area has actually *lost* pro sports teams since apparently none of these tech geniuses is normal enough to want to be a local hero and own a baseball team.

This seems like a very bad idea.

It's finally here: publication day for This One Will Be Different. Why do cities keep spending billions on stadiums despite decades of evidence that they don't deliver the promised benefits? I wrote a book about it. Hope you'll check it out! jcbradbury.com/towbd/

MPU is #1. We’ve added 1.4 million subscribers this year, won a second Emmy and there’s lots more to come.
📊 @MorePerfectUS was once again the fastest-growing political or political-adjacent YouTube channel in the US last quarter, pretty much tied with @TPUSA.

Steph Curry’s greatness earned this. A chance to go out how he wanted. And he wants to end it here. nytimes.com/athletic/7642679…

Didn’t have MPU doing a take down of the Haslam’s on my bingo card, but I’m absolutely here for it!
NEW: Billionaires are turning NFL stadiums into gated communities, catering to the ultra-rich. We talked to lifelong Cleveland Browns fans priced out of their new stadium. To get tickets, fans need to buy Personal Seat Licenses, which could cost $500 to $200,000 per seat.

This is a great piece at detailing the problem, but it really surprises me how much Americans are not willing to have the "how do we fix this obvious problem of society" conversation

My collab with @MorePerfectUS about how/why even the most loyal fans in the world are getting priced out of pro sports

Our latest MPU Sports video is with the great @DmoWriter. We went to Cleveland to talk to Browns fans about how they’re the latest fan base to get priced out of a new luxury stadium designed to sell tickets to the rich.

The Raiders, already beneficiaries of $750 million in public funding, have now received another $75 million to upgrade their barely 6-year-old stadium. Just another day in Nevada, giving away its public money to billionaires. #SchoolsOverStadiums
The Las Vegas Stadium Authority unanimously approves the use of $75M for the Raiders planned $158M north plaza project. The money comes out of a fund set up as part of SB1 to pay for stadium and infrastructure upgrades and UNLV revenue payments. #vegas #raiders #raidernation

If taxpayers are going to pay to build a stadium, then the taxpayers should own the stadium. You can’t socialize the cost, then privatize the profits. The Tampa Bay Rays are owned by an investment group led by a billionaire.
Taxpayers in Florida will be spending a whopping $876 million on a new baseball stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays. Hillsborough County and the city of Tampa are taking money away from the public and subsidizing a venue for wealthy team owners. This is corporate welfare at its finest.

Raiders want to improve fan flow into their stadium. Everybody wants a nice stadium experience. Question that remains unanswered is why public dollars have to be used to improve an experience that generates money for the privately-owned Raiders and their rented out stadium.

There needs to be a serious reexamination of sports ownership and how it is done in the United States. Billionaires holding cities for ransom and threatening to move community pillars on a whim is gross and it will continue to happen until something is done about it
