17 catastrophic global threats will shape the health of the next generation. But they are not inevitable.
I was honoured to serve as a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission on 21st Century Global Threats to Health. I worked alongside 34 leaders from health, economics, security, governance and technology. Together we set out a practical agenda for reducing risk and building resilience in an increasingly uncertain world. I'm glad African perspectives and evidence helped shape it, because many of these threats will be felt most sharply on our continent.

Nine years already 🎉🥳
Nine years ago, I became Executive Director of @aphrc with a full head of dark hair (that’s not my real hair lol). Today I have a few grey hairs and visibly less hair and nine years of memories!
I began the journey hesitant, a little anxious, facing the daunting task of keeping a great institution afloat. Nine years on, and a few kilos heavier, the anxiety and trepidation are gone. In their place? The sense that we are unstoppable!.
This week, #IamAPHRC’s @MangwanaVJ @isabelmutuku1 led the Health Cluster and WASH session, “Menstrual Hygiene & Adolescent Girls’ Well-being: Advancing Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRH) through Gender-Transformative Governance & Accountability.”

I co-authored a piece in the @TheLancet with Ebere Okereke, Spring Gombe, and @MagdaNRobalo. We argue the Accra Reset needs to convert "sovereignty" from a talking point into real country power.
The Global health architecture has been seriously disrupted and sovereignty has emerged as a rallying point for reform efforts. Ministries of health will be held accountable for outcomes, yet external partners still control the priorities, the financing channels, the indicators, and the data. That's a governance failure that got us to this point. The Accra Reset provides a real opportunity to fix this failure.
