Wow. Ken Jennings - supposedly a smart guy - is being paid to tell us that I-645 is going to "cut" revenue from WA schools and hospitals.... Even though the tax hasn't even begun yet. Really Ken?

My 7-year old almost beat me in chess. Does that say more about him, or more about me?

This is a great example of why I constantly malign modern tech. They do this sort of thing all the time - make tools that have just one job, and then utterly fail to do that job.
Who created this box and why? It's obviously an experiment to see if we'll ever learn it does nothing, but WHO is behind it?!?!?

The funny thing about climate change is that no one who is passionate about it wants to give specific - I mean really specific, enough to be useful - solutions for what to do. Nearly every week there is at least one column about this in the Seattle Times. They all say the same things: -we can't keep going on as if this isn't a disaster in the making -we need to stop supporting fossil fuels -we're going backwards if we relax fuel standards -blah blah blah But they never give any solutions that would actually have any actual effect. No, renewables aren't a solution. We're already doing that. Electric cars aren't a solution. We're already doing that. During the 'pandemic', we went months with virtually no cars on the roads, and the atmosphere didn't change at all - I read an article about this very thing. It shocked me. Why don't they give solutions? Because either 1) they don't HAVE any, or 2) they know their 'solutions' are completely and utterly impractical and would destroy civilization as we know it.
Climate change is not a pressing issue for the church.

It's such a strange feeling to be utterly loathed with absolute contempt simply for existing.

Apparently I'm a repulsive, abhorrent, horrific leech worthy of retching at the mere sight of me. At least, that's what my mother-in-law thinks.

Modern tech deserves all the mockery we can muster. This is priceless.

Yes, I am against voting by mail. Why? Because something as important as voting is worth a little tiny bit of sacrifice to take part in. Plus, the ritual has value, and the kids feel that in ways they never will watching mom and dad put something in the mail. Make election day a holiday or a Saturday instead.

It's official. For the first time in my life I can say it: I hate my job.

I saw a woman in a restaurant yesterday who looked eerily similar to Jane from Breaking Bad. Fortunately, this Jane appeared to be making better choices...

Great sci-fi is character-driven, not action-driven. When character drives action, we care about the action. When it's just action by itself, it loses its appeal. This is why many books get boring about halfway through.

Dialogue you have to see to fully appreciate: Doc: You need to relax. Leo Marvin: I AM relaxed! Doc: You need a vacation. Leo Marvin: I'm ON VACATION!! -What About Bob?

Different readers read for different things. -Style -Prose -Plot -Character -Pacing -Twists and surprises This is why not all reviewers agree. What do you look for in books?

I also don't read the synopsis, but it's because I don't read for content anyway. I read for style and the only way to figure out if an author is for you is to open up to that first page and find out.

Data: For a time, I was tempted by her offer. Picard: How long a time? Data: 0.68 seconds sir. For an android, that is nearly an eternity. -Superb dialogue from Star Trek First Contact

I'm officially launching a career change. I've done teaching. I've done self-employment with business, marketing, copywriting, and local business. It's career turn #3. But of course - my real career is author. If you like action, plot, character, and good pacing - you'll like my stuff.

This is the sort of 'dating' understanding of a man who was raised on video games, the instant-everything internet, and porn where the women do everything the first time they meet the man.
Okay I have to share an insane story from a friend in the dating trenches: >They meet on Bumble. By all accounts he seems totally normal. >He suggests a run for the first date. Seems thoughtful, since she is a runner. >....until it turns out he is not a runner. Not only can he not carry a conversation and jog, he taps out several times in 3 miles and she starts feeling bad for him. >As a result, they end up walking. While walking, he immediately brings up his ex girlfriend, saying she moved on quickly, is married, etc. Mind you, this is a first date. >THEN he asks, "As my girlfriend, you'd share your location with me, right?" He further explains “I’m just really protective of my stuff and my girlfriend’s the top of that list. If I don’t know what’s going on, I go to a bad place mentally” w.h.a.t. >He then mentions that his mom "Is gonna LOVE you" >When she says she has a work trip coming up, he complains that she "Is gonna leave him again" (MIND YOU: FIRST DATE) >The date ends, and he proceeds to text constantly for the next day....by now he has even come up with run club names for the two of them. >Despite trying to pump the brakes over the weekend, he continues double- and triple-texting because taking hints is not his style, apparently. >At one point she doesn't answer for a whole hour while at an event and he CALLS to "check in" and make sure things are okay At this point she tells him it's not going to work >Wait for it >The next day he texted asking if they could still run together

Now I'll wait for all the people saying "I was raised on those things and I'm not like this..."
