If you're one of the Border Patrol agents I've spent months making videos of & you want to talk about any of this, I'm mlm335.27 on Signal, mlm335 on Telegram, or mandawritesthings at proton dot me.
I'll protect your identity, and I won't flinch when I see you in the next city.
Wow. Per @priscialva, DHS has suspended Gregory Bovino’s access to his social media accounts effective immediately. He spent yesterday responding to people who were criticizing him and raising questions about his unverified claims about Pretti.

If someone was trying to increase their influence they wouldn’t be closing a newspaper now would they, @jimwaterson. Duh.
You’re ex colleagues tell me the general feeling was you are a prick, that sounds about right
I went to Cairo, Illinois, the capital of the fastest-shrinking county in America, and wrote about why in the future, much larger parts of America are likely to lose population: economist.com/briefing/2024/…

The humanitarian funding situation for #Sudan, and for the regional refugee response, is dire. And a shortfall in funding from the US, routinely the largest donor, is part of the issue. USAID has not announced any FY24 HA funding yet; State has announced just $47M.

There is a straightforward way to get sufficient aid into Gaza: for the wealthy state which controls all but one of Gaza's land-border crossings, and which is an occupying power in at least parts of the enclave, to take responsibility for delivering it.

A broader thought on the convoy attack. @WCKitchen does remarkable, courageous work, in Gaza and elsewhere. But in Gaza it is part of a jerry-built and inadequate solution to a problem that only exists because powerful governments are uninterested in addressing its root cause.

My least libertarian take is government should provide more guardrails to protect people from accidentally nuking their lives financially (studies routinely show people who sign up for payday loans, auto loans, etc straight up do not understand the math of what they sign up for) – at Sausalito, CA
The way people in this city use their plastic Halloween skeletons all year round brings me great joy

These figures are just invented by a PR firm to generate cheap engagement for an asset manger. Their source is the MIT cost of living survey, which you can Google and discover their figure for Chicago is less than half of this
My guess is their "analysis" consists of taking the MIT figure, adding a random multiplier to make it "comfortable" rather than a "living wage" and then inflating it further by assuming everyone needs to save 20% of their net income
