Recidivism is a big problem, with 9/10 going back to prison. @daniellenems FOIA’d data on every prison visit in WA and finds quasi random assignment to prison closer to home => family visits ⬆️ and recidivism ⬇️. Great JMP that will be very influential for prison reform debates!
Danielle Nemschoff's research shows that prison placement decisions matter. When people are housed closer to home, they receive more family visits, which significantly reduces recidivism. daniellenemschoff.github.io/

We now have evidence on how ppl responded to student loan forgiveness, and it largely supports this view (except forgiveness was exempted from taxes). For every dollar of forgiveness, total up front spending inc by 9 cents. 🧵on our new paper here: xitter.cf/dkoust/status/18911960…

ALT Professor Anjali Adukia (University of Chicago) and Professor Ben Feigenberg (University of Illinois at Chicago) seek a full-time research assistant with strong technical skills to work on large-scale social policy research projects designed to improve educational outcomes. The analyst will work on a portfolio of projects related to education and restorative justice in schools. The position is based in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will have experience in applying a variety of statistical modeling and data analysis techniques to datasets in real-world settings. From project inception to delivery, the RA will contribute to all facets of data collection and cleaning, model development, and implementation. 1/8 It's official. The US gvt in analysis of the costs and benefits of any new regulation will now use long-run discount rates as low as 1.1%. All proposed regulation the Administration says has high costs today but high benefits in the future just got a BIG, unjusified boost.
