The General stated clearly that the mission was to protect the President against rogue elements around him. The big difference between 2026 and 2017 is this: in 2026, the General asked questions to the Presidium which, by the way, includes himself at the 23rd National People’s Conference, with delegates from all Zanu-PF structures present, and he was answered fully by all. NB: it was the people who gave the answers, not the Presidium✅ In 2017, there was a sequence of events that led to President Mugabe resigning namely, the threat of a vote of no confidence from all Zanu-PF structures. In 2026, by contrast, all structures came out in support of President Mnangagwa✅ #EDWORKS Critically, in 2026 any military action would require the approval of Parliament, and there are no grounds for any intervention. Subject to Sections 207 and 208, the function of the defence forces is to protect Zimbabwe, its people, its national security and interests, its territorial integrity, and to uphold the Constitution✅ The critical point to note is that the General’s speech was to introduce the First Secretary for the opening declaration. Before the end-of-ceremony speech by the First Secretary the next day, not only the Presidium which included himself VP CHIWENGA but all delegates were given the right to respond against any of the final resolutions presented and no objections were registered, meaning the will of the people prevailed. That is the difference.
