ALT Open letter titled "Questions to the Next Government," addressed to Mr Rahul Gandhi as Leader of the Opposition. The letter states that citizens no longer expect answers from a government that meets questions with silence or state pressure, but that losing faith in one party doesn't create trust in another. It asks four questions: what reforms will protect press freedom from political influence; what safeguards will stop agencies like the CBI, ED, and Income Tax Department being used against political opponents, including by a future Congress government; how judicial independence and appointments will be protected from political interference; and what powers concentrated in the Prime Minister's Office the party is willing to voluntarily limit. It closes saying institutions that outlive governments matter more than development promises, and that any party willing to govern India is free to answer these questions. Signed, some concerned citizens of India.
