In time for #FossilFriday, @miguelpmarx and I prepared the page on Futabasaurus suzukii for the plesiosaur database. Futabasaurus is the only plesiosaur currently named from Japan and one of the most complete specimens known from Asia. 1/2

The holotype of Futabasaurus suzukii comprises an incomplete skeleton, including most of the skull. Miguel recently had a chance to visit the @museum_kahaku and provided some photos which show details of the skull and postcranium. 2/2

I just completed the profile page on Avalonnectes arturi, a plesiosaur named after the mythical island of Avalon and the legendary King Arthur. The holotype is part of the Marine Reptiles Gallery at the Natural History Museum.

For the Plesiosauria database, I have just completed the profile page on Nichollssaura borealis from the Lower Cretaceous of Alberta, the only leptocleidid currently known from North America.

I’m excited to share a new project that I hope will be a valuable resource for the paleo community!
I'm working on a textbook about plesiosaurs and compiled an overview of all currently valid plesiosaur taxa and some nomina dubia. 1/3

The database includes detailed info on taxonomy, systematic position, geological age, and distribution. I’ve also added context on major clades. You’ll notice a “Links” section for each entry. 2/3

I’m currently building out in-depth profiles covering diagnoses, type localities, key specimens, and photos. I’ll be constantly expanding and updating the site with new taxa and details, so stay tuned. 3/3

I just launched a webpage on Attenborosaurus conybeari, the plesiosaur named after Sir David Attenborough. The holotype skeleton, curated in Bristol, was destroyed by bombing in WWII.

I’ve begun a project to create web pages with basic information on most plesiosaur taxa. This is part of a broader effort to compile the research I’ll need for a planned textbook on plesiosaurs. 1/2
First contribution Lorrainosaurus: sachspal.de/taxa/plesiosauri…
Second contribution: Rhaeticosaurus mertensi, the oldest articulated plesiosaur known so far. 2/2

I’m happy to share my renewed publications site. It features all my papers, most on plesiosaurs and other marine reptiles, with pdf's or additional information for each. I hope you find it informative and useful.

I'm happy to announce that my first book “Die Welt der Plesiosaurier” (The World of the Plesiosaurs) is officially out!
The book has nearly 300 pages and features a state-of-the-art overview of plesiosaurs. 1/5

The book is written in German, but we hope an English edition will follow in the future. However, with its rich illustrations, and the help of modern translation apps, the book is still worth exploring even without German language skills. 4/5

Our reassessment of Lusonectes sauvagei, a plesiosaur from the Lower Jurassic of #Portugal, was published yesterday in PeerJ.
Lusonectes was originally described as a plesiosauroid closely related to Microcleidus. 1/4
#paleontology
Because only an incomplete skull and mandible are preserved, the phylogenetic position of Lusonectes remains uncertain. Nevertheless, it is a valid taxon and a rare Toarcian plesiosaur from outside the classic localities of Germany and England. 3/4
Many thanks to my co-author @danielmadzia and the team at the Museu Geológico.
