A hardline objective truth. This is what holds the line, not lobby groups and social platforms.
Had it not been for the media and civil society, the public would have had no knowledge that this trial was proceeding or how it is being conducted. Well done to our co-applicants, @News24 @dailymaverick @amaBhungane and our spectacular legal team.
Sober deliberations that our political class could do more with.
Stands out against most of the troll/bot comments this platform feeds. Might just break the algorithm!
ActionSA, I have read your policies, and on paper, I agree with the principle that foreign nationals must be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their immigration status, and that xenophobia must be condemned.
But here is the hard question, Herman Mashaba: What is the value of a policy if your public rhetoric appears to contradict what your party has committed to on paper?
What do we call it when a political party writes one thing in its policy documents but communicates something different to the public? Political hypocrisy? Double standards? Or saying the right things on paper while practising something different in public?
As an EFF member, I believe in enforcing immigration laws without scapegoating African people. Foreign nationals are human beings too. They have dignity, rights and humanity that must be respected. Their nationality or immigration status does not strip them of their humanity, and it must never become an excuse to dehumanise them or encourage hostility towards them.
We cannot allow the working class to be divided by nationality while unemployment, inequality and the concentration of wealth continue to undermine the lives of ordinary people.
There is also a serious electoral accountability question here. The IEC's Electoral Code of Conduct prohibits certain forms of intimidation, incitement to violence and discriminatory conduct in the electoral context. The IEC's Disinformation Code addresses deliberately false or misleading election-related information while protecting legitimate political criticism and opinion.
If political rhetoric crosses those legal boundaries during an election campaign, should the IEC not investigate? No political party should be above the rules. Whether a breach has occurred depends on the specific statements, their context and the available evidence. A contradiction between policy and rhetoric alone does not establish an electoral offence.
Herman Mashaba, I agree with the principle in your written policy. Now demonstrate that same commitment in your public rhetoric and political conduct.
Foreign nationals are human beings. The law must be enforced, but humanity must never be abandoned.
The @EFFSouthAfrica will continue teaching our people that the struggle for economic freedom must never come at the expense of another human being's dignity. We will continue challenging xenophobia, exposing contradictions and advancing the values of equality, solidarity and Pan-Africanism.

🇿🇦Our economy can’t bear electricity tariffs increasing by 8,8% with inflation at 4,3%; population growth at 1,1%; GDP growth at 1,2%; and unemployment at 33,6% . We’ll end up being controlled by creditors - then you’ll see real poverty!🇿🇦

Fair comment, for individuals and businesses alike.
Best case, living here means to divest as much as possible to mitigate risk.
Also. Instead of blaming voters. Parties contesting elections should also note the conduct of some of their WC members in engaging their constituents.

Now that the internet has had 24 hours to lose its mind over the Airlink flypast at DHL Stadium…
As a pilot, I thought it was magnificent.
Yes, it was LOW. That was rather the point.
But low does not automatically mean unsafe.
This was a planned, rehearsed and approved flypast, flown at around 150 knots and conducted within the altitude and speed parameters approved by the SACAA. Air Traffic Navigation Services was also involved in the planning and support.
And this wasn’t a couple of cowboys having a crack at it.
Each aircraft carried THREE senior Airlink captains, acting as commander, co-pilot and safety/technical officer. That is a serious amount of experience sitting up front.
What we watched was precision flying.
Two Embraers. Formation. Low level. Precise timing. A stadium packed with Springbok and All Black supporters. And a spectacular piece of aviation to kick off one of the greatest rivalries in world sport.
Was it close?
Hell yes.
Was there an incident?
No.
Was it some unplanned near-disaster requiring an internet investigation by every newly qualified Facebook aviation expert?
Also no. 📷
Airlink’s own recorded flight data confirms that both aircraft remained within the SACAA-approved and rehearsed safety parameters.
So perhaps we can stop manufacturing an accident that never happened and simply appreciate what we were privileged to see.
And thankfully, despite what another highly reliable Facebook image may suggest, the crews were not dreadlocked, doobie-smoking, “trust the vibes” cockpit philosophers. 📷
So no, Cheech and Chong were not flying the formation.
Thank you Airlink. That was something special.
May there be many more.
Oh, and the Boks won 33–26.

That flyover today was dangerously low.. I hope your airline is are from doing this ever again and endangering the lives of those in and around the stadium.
Those pilots need to be suspended pending an inquiry.
Cape Town, get your cameras ready! ✈️
We’ll be visiting DHL Stadium just before kick-off, so get creative and share your pics and vids with us using #FlyAirlink, and yours could be featured next! 📸

Airlink denies any safety violations and states that both aircraft flew within the approved and rehearsed safety altitude, in a released statement.
The full statement says, "Airlink notes the concerns expressed in various social media and online forums regarding yesterday’s formation flyby over Cape Town’s DHL Stadium.
The flight demanded careful planning and rehearsal, as it required navigating at low altitude, at around 150 knots. The South African Civil Aviation Authority and Air Traffic Navigation Services provided valuable guidance, approval and support to ensure a safe flyby.
The two aircraft were flown by highly-experienced crew, with each comprised of three senior captains operating in the roles of commander, co-pilot and safety/technical officer.
The flight data recorded by both aircraft confirms that the flights were performed within the SACAA’s approved and rehearsed safety altitude and speed limits for the flypast."

On August 27, ICE arrested Milo Yiannopoulos, an illegal alien from the United Kingdom, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in Kenner, Louisiana. Yiannopoulos legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.
Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to show up for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal.
Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time at 10111 centres, but the messages I’ve received from operators over the past few days have made me look at the problem differently.
Many operators have previously shared their frustrations with me, but not quite the volume I received over the last two days.
We hear about the calls that go wrong. We rarely hear about the person who has been sitting behind that phone for years.
Some members tell me they have spent decades in SAPS and are still constables. They feel their years of service have counted for very little when it comes to career development. Others speak openly about very low morale and the mental toll of the job.
Then there are the practical things. Not enough people. Twelve-hour shifts, sometimes without proper breaks. Phones and radios that don't always work. Members say there have even been times when they have used their own cellphones to get complaints to colleagues on the road.
And while technology has moved on, operators tell me their training often hasn't. You cannot train somebody for an emergency communications job and then leave them there for years without constantly developing their skills.
Think about what these members listen to every day. Someone screaming for help. A murder in progress. A child missing. A family being attacked. They have to stay calm, work out what is happening and try to get help moving.
Most of us will hopefully never have to hear those calls. They hear them for a living.
This doesn't excuse poor conduct. If an operator handles a call badly, investigate it and act where necessary. But I don't want individual operators becoming convenient scapegoats for years of poor HR management, outdated technology and neglect.
There are many good, dedicated people sitting behind those 10111 phones. Some of them feel completely stranded by the organisation they have served for years.
They deserve better equipment. They deserve proper ongoing training and psychological support. And after years of service, surely they deserve a career path that actually goes somewhere.
Before we only blame the person answering 10111, perhaps SAPS leadership needs to answer a few calls of its own.
We will continue to do what we can from an oversight point of view to push for better conditions, support and development for these members.
