The NPP government having their November memorials for those dead during the JVP insurrections, yet not applying the same standard when it comes to the North and East, is very telling about how even the supposedly 'progressive', actually aren't.
CCTV footage shows police officers removing a statue of Rasaiah Parthipan, better known as Thileepan, from a memorial site in Nallur, Jaffna, in the early hours of Sunday (27).
Thileepan was a member of the LTTE who died in 1987 after a hunger strike over a series of demands.
The statue was removed a day after commemorations marking the 39th anniversary of his death concluded at the site. Police have yet to publicly state the reason or legal basis for the removal.
Initial analysis doesn't support the three reasons (solar over-generation; Upper Kotmale failure; Norochcholai Plant 1 failure) as being the main cause of the 17 October blackouts. Likely contributory, but not cause.

CEB's generation data for the last two days are still missing from the PUCSL data portal, making any inference on what would have happened difficult.
Thai Campaign Pushes Repatriation of Two Gifted Tuskers Over Temple Welfare Concerns thersq.org/article/thai-elep…
The Thai Government wants their Kandula, (Plai Sri Narong - gifted in 2001), back.
Another Thai-gift, Muthu Raja (Plai Sak Surin), was flown out last year after decades of abuse. It costed over half a million dollars for the Thai Government to take back their gift.
The previous casket-bearer Vijeya Raja (commercial import from India, resold three times) died in 2022.
The Thai-gifted Vijeya Raja (Plai Pratu Pha from 1980) is the other elephant that the Thai government wants back, again for the same reasons.
All three live(d) in temples.

"Four days we ran from renewables" is like saying you're a teetotaller because you didn't drink since last night. Managing generation and storage require us to start using reservoirs as batteries.
Dr Asoka Ranwala's PhD would have been useful right about now.
“Renewable energy accounts for 69% of our total power generation capacity. For four consecutive days, we have not used even a single litre of diesel to generate electricity,” President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said, describing the progress made in the country’s transition to renewable energy as a major achievement.
When a problem child throws an unreasonable tantrum, you just carry on what you're doing and let them tire themselves out. You don't get a Court order.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on Friday (Oct. 16) issued a court order preventing Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thera and 54 others from remaining within the premises of the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
The order comes as a group of Buddhist monks continues a protest outside the Presidential Secretariat, demanding the release of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera.
The protest began on Thursday evening, with several monks remaining at the location overnight.
The protesters are currently occupying the pavement on the opposite side of Galle Road, away from the Presidential Secretariat. (Newswire)
