Congratulations to Holly Gildea on acceptance of her thesis work in Science Advances! A preprint of her work describing how glial cells coordinate the heat shock response can be found on BioRxiv here:

If you love genetics and metabolic pathways, this is the paper for you!
Dillin lab Gelato Happy Hour to welcome rotation student Mars Torres from the Helen Wills Neuroscience Graduate Program!
Check out our newest pub in JCB! rupress.org/jcb/article/221/…
Decreased mitochondrial import from stress activates mtUPR, but then how do all those mitochondrial-saving expressed genes get back in? (1/2)
Congratulations to @holly_gildea for closing out the Thesis Research Presentations with an amazing talk! Dr Gildea, we are so proud! #micdrop #PhDone
Sent in our order and excited to get strains from @SunyBiotech. Makes genome editing a breeze, like this cool endogenously-tagged mCherry strain!!
Hats off to @philfrankino for a SKN-tillating Thesis Research Presentation! He's officially Dr Phil now - congratulations! #PhDone
Congratulations to @mellymetcalf for a successful Thesis Research Presentation! The Dr is in! #WomenInSTEM #PhDone

Congrats to MCB's Andy Dillin @dillinlab on the 2022 Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences! 👏
The FNIH announces that @Stanford’s Dr. Anne Brunet and @UCBerkeley’s Dr. Andrew Dillin will receive the 2022 Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences for their independent but complementary research in biological mechanisms of aging.

Huge congratulations to @tayladhunter on a well deserved Goldwater Scholarship! Tayla did a fantastic job in our lab this past summer working with @holly_gildea. Any MD/PhD program would be lucky to have her!
Congratulations to @tayladhunter who has been awarded the Goldwater Scholarship! The Goldwater honors outstanding undergrads pursuing research science. If you're recruiting for MD/PhD programs, take note!! Big things coming her way 🎉🥳

Excited to share our new paper! We found that aged mice exhibited an exaggerated UPRER signature - lipid and protein synthesis overall were more suppressed, however, canonical UPRER proteins were translated at higher rates in aged mice under ER stress.

Hi Twitter! The Dillin lab is hiring a senior mouse technician to manage our mouse colony and assist with experiments in our studies of aging and stress response. Feel free to share this with anyone who you may think is interested! hhmi.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/e…

And another preprint from @dillinlab @philfrankino @holly_gildea showing that overexpression of hsf-1 in only the 4 glial cells of #Celegans is enough to induce a heat shock response and longevity 9/7 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Another preprint from our lab is up now. In this one, @philfrankino et al. found and characterized a role for SKN-1 as a surveillance factor. Turns out it can monitor and respond to genetic perturbation of amino acid catabolism pathways and alter multiple stress resistances!
SKN-1 is a metabolic surveillance factor that monitors amino acid catabolism to control stress resistance biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… #bioRxiv
Check out our latest paper by graduate student @holly_gildea which describes how glia can signal a pan organismal heat shock response independent of canonical neuronal circuits! Great work, Holly and team! @UCBerkeleyNeuro @berkeleyMCB
Ta da!! Pre-print up now!
