my boyfriend wants to start a company called “just” and manufacture stuff like a refrigerator that’s just a refrigerator or a washing machine that just washes your clothes and their products have no tech and work for at least 15+ years.

So my kid is busting their ass for hours every day working on their portfolio as part of their application to @sheridancollege Bachelor of Animation. News stories reporting 40 cancelled programs at Sheridan, without naming them. Sheridan has NOTHING on their website.
I work in higher ed. I know the crisis. But people are applying right now for Fall 2024, and they need to know whether the programs they are applying to actually continue to exist.

Olivia Rodrigo reveals that a guy wanting to go to space is a red flag for her:
“This is a very oddly specific question that I ask guys on first dates. I always ask them if they think that they would want to go to space. And if they say yes, I don’t date them. I just think if you wanna go to space, you’re a little too full of yourself. I think it’s just weird.”

Signs we might be in the worst timeline:
I'm on campus and I have to close my office door because a remote teacher over Zoom is 50db loud in my office from the classroom across the hall. Remote access is making me regret being on campus, hahahaha no.
It is 26 degrees at least in my classroom because that is what the thermostat is set to, and I've stripped off all the layers I can and I feel faint. Should I cancel my afternoon class that's in the same room? Everyone else is falling asleep from the heat. @UWaterloo
If only there was a way to tell Apple Classical that I only want non-terrible interpretations of the piano repertoire? How am I getting abridged versions with no soul? Lol.

the backlash against Chappell Roan for saying “fine, I’ll vote for the Democratic Party, but I don’t like them” is so bizarre as a Canadian because it’s understood here that everyone votes begrudgingly for whomever they hate least in order to defeat someone worse

A VC firm I had a Zoom meeting with used Otter AI to record the call, and after the meeting, it automatically emailed me the transcript, including hours of their private conversations afterward, where they discussed intimate, confidential details about their business.
I consider myself a silly person, leaning into my own kookiness as a teacher and chasing special-interest as research. But when I reread my own published work after some time, I am surprised to see my own seriousness and formality. Truly: surprised. 🧵
