Katie Zacharia is bombing her first White House press conference. But on the bright side, she’ll absolutely crush the swimsuit competition.

Every year on or right before 9/11, we show this video to our students. It’s not only powerful story-telling, it’s a reminder to a younger generation about how life altering 9/11 was for those of us who lived it. It’s only 10 min #themanintheredbandana

WE NEED TO TELL MORE STORIES ABOUT EDUCATORS DOING GREAT THINGS. Google “teacher arrested” or “teacher fired” and you’ll have no trouble finding story after story. Now think about how often you see headlines about the teacher who quietly changed a child’s life. There’s actually a reason for this. Researchers analyzed more than 105,000 versions of news stories generating 370+ million impressions and found that each additional negative word in a headline increased clicks by 2.3%. Bad news gets attention. (DOI) But bad news is NOT the whole story of education. Every single day, teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, nurses, coaches and administrators are doing extraordinary things that will probably never make the news. They are… ❤️ Buying a student lunch because they know there isn’t much food at home. 📚 Staying late to help a struggling student finally understand something. 👟 Finding shoes, coats, backpacks or supplies for a child who needs them. 🧠 Recognizing that “bad behavior” might actually be anxiety, trauma, fear or overwhelm. 👏 Celebrating the student who went from an F to a C like they just won the Super Bowl. ☎️ Calling home not because something went wrong—but because something went RIGHT. 🪑 Giving up their lunch or planning period to sit with a student having a terrible day. 🌟 Finding the one thing a struggling child is good at and helping that child discover, “Maybe I’m pretty awesome at something.” 🤝 Showing up at games, concerts, plays, graduations and events simply because a student asked, “Will you come?” 💙 Refusing to give up on the kid who may have already given up on themselves. These stories happen thousands and thousands of times every day. And here’s something else worth remembering: teachers consistently rank among America’s more trusted professions. Gallup has repeatedly found educators near the top of its honesty and ethics rankings. (Gallup) Of course, when an educator does something seriously wrong, it should be reported and addressed. But those individuals should not become the story of an entire profession. After 35 years working in and around schools as a teacher, principal and therapist, I’ve seen far more educators quietly changing lives than educators making headlines. Maybe we need to change what gets amplified. When you see an educator doing something amazing, tell someone. -Email the principal. -Tell the superintendent & school board. -Post about it. -Thank them. -Tell their story. And if you’re in the media, occasionally put that educator on the front page. Because there are incredible people doing incredible things for kids in our schools every single day. Good educators may not always make the news, but they absolutely make an incredible difference. 🍎 Know an educator or school staff member doing something exceptional? Tag them below and tell us what they did. Let’s make THIS the story people share. #Teachers #TeacherAppreciation #Education #PublicEducation #TeachersMatter #ThankATeacher #SchoolStaff #Educators #Principals #SchoolCounselors #Paraprofessionals #EducationMatters #StudentsFirst #TeachersChangeLives #BackToSchool

My favorite line from Atomic Habits has been living in my head rent-free: “It doesn’t make sense to continue wanting something if you’re not willing to do what it takes to get it. If you don’t want to live the lifestyle, then release yourself from the desire. To crave the result but not the process is to guarantee disappointment.”

This Easter, I invite you to look at Jesus, consider what he said and did, and ask for yourself what I believe is the most important question you will ever answer: Did he really leave behind an empty tomb? And if he did, what does that mean for you? This video was made possible and in collaboration with my friends at @ChildlikeMedia.
