It’s been 50 years since Earl Campbell led our shared alma mater to a state title. But Earl means a lot more to Tyler, Houston and Texas than just football. Thanks to @houstonchron for a chance to tell his story once more. houstonchronicle.com/texas-s… via @houstonchron

I spent the first half of a 1999 Texas-Nebraska game running up and down the sideline with Lee, trying to keep up with him. He watched games with the same vigor he displayed as a coach. That day, and others, reflected the truth that any time spent with Lee Corso was a good time.

For with its worth, I timed Jon Batiste at 1:59.95 (119.95 seconds) for the Super Bowl National Anthem, measuring from his first note sung to the last note sung. I think the extra two lines repeated plus the addition of the word “it” added about 15 seconds.
