i recently had to tell someone that even though i’m sad about it, they do not have to apologize bc they didn’t mistreat me or do anything wrong. some things can make someone emotional. that doesn’t mean the other person is wrong or unreasonable for it.

Someone can have every right to leave a relationship, decline an invitation, refuse a request, etc., and the other person can still feel genuinely abandoned or disappointed. Those feelings don't automatically establish that a boundary was violated or that someone was mistreated
