I am heartbroken that I will not be able to make beautiful music with her at Carnegie Hall in April. She truly was an amazing and kind soul. Sending love to all those who knew her.
“Almost everyone on campus knew Jennifer. And to know her was to love her," Hope College President Matt Scogin wrote to the campus community after a student was hit by a train and died.

Hello #neurotwitter #neuroscience #graduateschool! What tips do you have for a new graduate student regarding finances, social life, wellness, technical skills, and more?
I’m relocating from Michigan to start at the University of Rochester SMD in New York.
Happy World IVF day! My life, like many others, would not be possible without this amazing scientific feat.
Feeling a lot of emotions as I embark on my last day of research in the Calvo Lab tomorrow. I have witnessed so much growth under the direction of @erikacalvophd. It is hard to say goodbye to something so integral to your development as a scientist and human being.

I’m thrilled to share that the Calvo lab has received an NSF BRC-BIO grant! 🎉 This award will support our investigations on how the #zebrafish nervous system repairs itself and regains function after damage @HopeCollege @HopeNeurosci @HopeBio 1/2 – at Holland, MI
Hi #NeuroTwitter #neurosciencetwitter
I am finishing my undergraduate junior year and preparing to apply to Ph.D. programs this winter. Interests include behavioral disorders and neuroinflammation. Does anyone know of any good mentors that will be taking students in fall ‘24? – at Holland, MI

So ecstatic to share this amazing news…
Out of 5,000 applicants, I am honored to announce that I am one of 413 Goldwater Scholars. This wouldn’t be possible without the help of my amazing PI @erikacalvophd. I’m truly on cloud nine. #goldwater #goldwaterscholar @HopeNeurosci – at Holland, MI
Presented today at #SfN2022! As an undergraduate student, this experience has been humbling and inspiring. There is still so much to learn and that is exciting! This baby scientist cannot wait to grow in her knowledge of the wrinkly organ we call the brain.
So blessed to have this opportunity and I thank all of those who have helped me to get here (especially my amazing PI @erikacalvophd).
Day 1 of my first SfN! Having a great time! Only regret was that I did not pack comfortable shoes. Oops.
Also, I am coming for all the freebies 👀. My goal is to claim as many foam brains as possible. #SfN22

Impostor syndrome: “I don't know what I'm doing. It's only a matter of time until everyone finds out."
Growth mindset: "I don't know what I'm doing yet. It's only a matter of time until I figure it out."
The highest form of self-confidence is believing in your ability to learn.
This was from a video for Hope College way back when, but I wanted to share an “action shot” (even though I was totally just pipetting water for all of the takes). I’d like to say it’s pretty bad*ss. #WomenInSTEM #girlsjustwannahavefunding
