It will forever be a stain on our country's history that we were on the wrong side of the Russia-Ukraine war when it mattered most. Last month, we promised Ukraine the ability to produce Patriot interceptors themselves. That was walked back for some reason. Aid packages to Ukraine — even weapons & funding already approved by Congress before this administration — have slowed to nearly a halt. You'd think the least we could do is let them use Starlink to hit the launchers hitting them. Instead, Elon Musk is blocking them from doing so — even for military targets, even as the interceptors they desperately need run out. Zelenskyy tried to set up a meeting with Trump and Elon on his most recent trip to the US. Elon refused. In an Economist interview last month, Elon said the war can only end "through concessions to Moscow." That's backwards. Russia has never negotiated in good faith. Putin only comes to the table when losing costs him more than the war does. Cutting off Ukraine's ability to strike back doesn't bring peace closer; it removes the only pressure that ever would. The United States is simply not putting any real pressure on Putin to end this war. For the life of me, I'll never understand why.
