We must do better by Afghan women and girls. Afghanistan faces the most severe women’s rights catastrophe in the world and is considered by many to be gender apartheid and even constitute a crime against humanity. We cannot let this kind of behavior stand ever, let alone in 2024.
We call on the U.S. government to:
👉Prioritize the needs of Afghan women and girls in all policy decisions
👉Support Afghan women-led organizations
👉Adhere to the Women, Peace, and Security Act and Strategy.
We call on the international community to:
👉Ensure Afghan women are meaningfully included in all diplomatic talks
👉Hold the Taliban accountable for ongoing and past human rights abuses
👉Support humanitarian organizations
“The international community, including the U.S., has done far too little to stand with Afghan women & girls, uphold their rights, & ease their suffering. It is time to do better.”
Three years ago today, the #Taliban took over #Afghanistan. Since that time, the situation in the country has deteriorated. The Taliban have instituted draconian restrictions on Afghan #women and #girls, denying them their human #rights.
