i've shipped 5+ ios apps. here's everything i learned about actually making money from them: 1. distribution beats product. every time. a mediocre app with a distribution channel beats a great app nobody finds. your best feature is worthless if nobody installs it. 2. the app store doesn't pay you. downloads are free attention. the paywall is where the business is. most devs obsess over the icon and the onboarding. the paywall converts or it doesn't. that's the whole game. 3. sell the outcome, not the features. nobody cares that your app has ai tracking, smart reminders and cloud sync. they care what changes in their life. i stopped listing features on my paywalls and started selling the result. conversion went up immediately. 4. on tiktok, format beats followers. a fresh account with the right format gets pushed. a big account with the wrong format dies. the algorithm tests the content, not your follower count. that's why 0-follower accounts print views. 5. research the format before you build. before i write one line of code, i look at what's already winning in the niche. which formats get millions of views, which hooks repeat, which apps show up again and again. building blind is gambling. 6. one post a day beats ten posts once. consistency compounds. warmed-up accounts, one solid post daily, and the niche learns you. most people quit in week two, right before it starts working. 7. kill fast. if the format doesn't move after honest testing, the idea is dead. sunk cost is what actually kills indie devs, not bad ideas. distribution is a learnable skill. product taste is a learnable skill. most devs only train one of them.
the BEST way to warm up a tiktok account (i run one per app, this never fails): every account gets 2 sessions a day at random times. each session starts tiktok fresh, straight to for you. watch times are random: mostly fast skips, sometimes a long watch, a short pause before swiping. look human. DAYS 1-2: just exist. scroll for you 15-20 min per session. no search, no likes, no follows, no posts. you are a normal new user discovering the app. DAYS 3-4: teach it your niche. warm up on for you for a few minutes, then type a niche term into search letter by letter and open the first result. i rotate ~10 niche terms. watch way longer than on for you: 12s to 1.5min per video. still no likes. DAYS 5-6: become a fan. same flow, but now like ~8% of videos after long watches. your for you fills up with niche content. DAY 7: post. 10 min of normal scrolling first, then upload 1 slideshow with caption and hashtags. max 1 post a day. and keep the niche sessions running every day, even on days you dont post. your account never posts cold. the algorithm already knows your niche before your first video exists. 7 tiktok slideshows. 3.19m views. $762 in 4 days. no followers when i started. no ads. no posting 5x a day. i built a tool that does the research for me: it finds winning slideshow formats, writes the full post, and sends it to my phone. (check comments) price goes 55€ -> 119€ tomorrow. today is the last day.

stopped listing features on my paywall. started selling the outcome. "unlimited calculations" -> "never second-guess your dose again" "ai meal tracking" -> "log your food in 10 seconds" conversion went up. features don't sell, outcomes do.
this is the EXACT paywall setup ive been using in all of my apps. it might not look like much, but its the highest converting from all my tests BECAUSE its super simple, also do NOT sleep on the winback offer, it genuinely makes a bunch of money

my exact tiktok research system (the one scrollmine automates): 1. search your niche, open the top 20 slideshow accounts 2. measure each: slideshow share, avg views, views per follower, cadence 3. delete anyone with 1 viral hit and a dead feed (luck, not a system) 4. the survivors share 2-3 formats. save the 5 best posts per format 5. rebuild the format around your product. same skeleton, your words, your screenshots 6. post 1/day for 7 days. double down on the format with the best views per follower i ran this by hand for weeks. then i automated it.

3 months ago i couldn't scale organic. so i spent weeks researching how tiktok slideshows actually work. which formats pull views, why some accounts explode from zero. then i built scrollmine. just for myself, just to do the research and distribution faster. 7 posts on a fresh account: 3.19M views, $762 in 4 days. so i wrote the whole strategy down and released the tool behind it using whop. now scrollmine helps founders in 14 countries run the same playbook.

i don't have a team. i have 20 ai agents. one does tiktok research. one writes my slideshows. one runs aso experiments. one drafts my x posts. one handles support tickets. i just review and ship. the bottleneck isn't workforce anymore. it's my decisions.

you don't need to show your face on tiktok. my best performing slideshows: - organic advice + app as an optional cheatcode - product screenshots + one line of text nobody follows a face. they follow useful. the algorithm ranks what's in the post, not who posted it.

or you could edit your video right in TikTok studio, works like a charm, and tiktok sees that you edited right in their app
How to avoid TikTok’s “AI-Generated” label 👇 The method I’ve found most effective: 1. Save your video to your camera roll. 2. Open the video and play it full screen. 3. Screen record it directly from your phone. 4. Trim the screen recording to remove any extra footage. 5. Upload the screen recording to TikTok instead of the original file. Why I prefer this method: -Most metadata strippers I’ve tried don’t work consistently. -Screen recording creates a new video file. -It can change or remove some original metadata.

what's the one thing that actually grew your app? not the thing you thought would work. the thing that actually moved the number. i'll start: tiktok organic. everything else was noise.

tiktok is a search engine now. most of my views come from search, not for you. so i write every caption like a search query: - "peptide dosing schedule for beginners" - "how to warm up a new tiktok account" your caption is not a caption. it's an SEO title. write it like someone is already searching for it.

why your tiktok posts die at 0 views: 1. you posted cold. no warmup, the algorithm has no clue who to show it to. 2. you copied a big account. their format works for their audience, not yours. 3. your hook slide is an intro. nobody cares. lead with claim + number. 4. you post 5x a day. 1 good post beats 5 rushed ones. fix the warmup first, then the format. i automate viral posts using this: scrollmine.com

unpopular opinion: most indie devs dont have a marketing problem. they have a volume problem. 3 posts is not a strategy. 30 posts is data.

my 5-step format research checklist before i post anything on tiktok 1. find 20 accounts in the niche 2. sort by views per follower, not followers 3. screenshot every format that shows up 3+ times 4. rebuild the hook in my own words, keep the structure 5. post 2x a day for 14 days, kill formats under 3k average views steal this
