In many medieval wars, populations gave various names to armed factions, particularly during the French Civil War. In the winter of 1411, the population of Argonne region gave a special, pejorative name to the Armagnac soldiers: "Arminaux".
A word combining "Armagnac" and "animals," they denounced them as brutes and vermin. One day, the inhabitants of the town of Rethel even repelled their attack, shouting, "Kill, kill all these Arminaux!"
