The Sopranos (1999-2007) 4K UHD
At a recent screening David Chase stated that HBO is currently remastering The Sopranos and fixing the CGI-produced Livia that appeared in Season 3 episode 2. Chase outwardly lamented the fact that the new episode masters weren’t ready in time for the screening.
New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life that affect his mental state, leading him to seek professional psychiatric counseling.

C10K problem
in 1999 a software engineer named Dan Kegel wrote an article that changed how web servers are built
the question was simple how do you handle 10,000 concurrent connections on one machine
at the time Apache used one thread per connection, each thread needed memory for its stack around 8MB and 10,000 connections meant around 80GB of RAM just for stacks
the system spent more time switching threads than doing real work
servers crashed long before reaching 10k connections
this became known as the C10K problem

goto gets a bad reputation but in C it is often the cleanest way to handle cleanup
when multiple resources are involved it avoids duplicating free calls everywhere
this pattern shows up all over real codebases including the linux kernel

About to butcher this, but bear with me here ...
"Give a man a post and he'll get views for a day. Teach a man to post and he'll get views for a lifetime."
@MrGeld joined our growth team to lead all things X and in just one week, he's already had two banger tweets over 1M views.
Hiring a X/Twitter creator is one of the hardest creators to hire for because the skill isn't necessarily storytelling, it's taste and copywriting.
For us at Autopilot; when we make new hires, we open up the playbook of secrets to how we driven tens of millions of views/month because the art of tweeting is a science. We also put an emphasis on developing our employees into content killers who can go on in their career and build pages for themselves.
Another creator joined us as a short form content creator two years ago with no experience getting behind a camera to film. Now, she built up a Tiktok account to 250K+ followers and runs our entire Instagram Account stack w/ 1.5M followers.
With that, the point of this post is to make you to think "wow, working at Autopilot must be cool because they know the secrets of content creation and teach it to their employees."
So if you thought that, yes it's true. So help me find a couple more killers to join our team.

As an Engineer you should know the following concepts
Idempotency → Prevents duplicate payments
Pagination → Keeps your DB from dying
Versioning → Lets you evolve APIs without breaking clients
Rate limiting → Protects your service from abuse
Error codes → Helps clients handle failures correctly
Caching → Reduces load by 90%
JWT security → Prevents leaking sensitive data
N+1 queries → The difference between 10ms and 10s response time
Docs → Stops the `how does this API work?` Slack messages
Consistency → Choose the right tradeoff for your use case

Jeff Bezos on his favorite interview question
“When I interview people, I ask them to give me an example of something they've invented. And I always point out, it doesn't have to be something that you actually took to the patent office. It could be a metric that you invented and followed carefully. It could be a business process that you invented. You want to select people who like to invent their way out of boxes.”
A lot of people will immediately jump to what Jeff calls an “either or” solution (e.g. “We can do A or B.”). But as Jeff explains:
“The right question is how can we do A and B? What invention do we need to be able to do both?”

5 Distributed Concepts Every Developer Should Know

You have a microservice setup.
Your OrderService needs to tell your EmailService to send an email.
You set up a simple Redis or RabbitMQ queue. OrderService pushes a job. EmailService pops it. It works.
Then, the new AnalyticsService needs to also know about that order.
Too late. The EmailService already consumed and deleted the message.
So you write custom code for the OrderService to post to two queues.
Then FraudService comes along. Now you're posting to three queues.
Your OrderService is now a brittle, coupled mess.
You've heard of Kafka. You think, it's just a message queue, but way more complicated.
Kafka is not a queue at all. It's a log.
That one difference changes everything.
Here's the journey from this is too complex to this is a new way of building software.
Step 1: The Queue Problem (What you're used to)
- In a queue (like RabbitMQ), a message is like a task in a to-do list.
- A consumer pops it. It's gone.
- If the consumer crashes, the message is lost (or you build complex retry logic).
- Only one consumer group can get a message.
Step 2: The Click Moment (The Kafka 'Log')
- In Kafka, a message (an event) is never deleted by consumers.
- It's published to a 'Topic' (like all-orders).
- It's written to a file, like a git log, in the order it arrived.
- It's durable and fault-tolerant by default.
Step 3: The So What? (The Realization)
This is where the magic happens.
- Consumers don't pop messages. They read them.
- They are just pointers, reading from a specific place in the log (an 'Offset').
- Your EmailService can read the log.
- Your AnalyticsService can also read the same log, at its own pace.
- Your FraudService can also read the same log.
- They are all in different 'Consumer Groups'. Kafka doesn't care.
- Your OrderService just shouts once into the void. It's completely decoupled.
Step 4: The God-Mode (The Replay)
- Your EmailService crashes? Who cares. The message is still in the log. When it reboots, it just starts reading from its last 'Offset'. Zero data loss.
- You deploy a new AI-powered RecommendationService.
- You can tell it: Start from the beginning of the all-orders topic, and read the last 6 months of history.
- It can replay the past to build its model.
- You cannot do this with a queue.
Kafka isn't a 'message bus'.
It's a distributed, fault-tolerant, permanent 'source of truth' for your entire company. It's the central nervous system for a modern, data-driven business.
