A decade ago I was amazed and honoured to receive the @Instoflicensing Jeremy Allen Award for Excellence in Licensing. This evening the 12th winner of the award will be announced in Stratford at the @iolevents Gala Dinner. Well done to everyone who has been nominate this year.

Rugby Borough Council have absolutely no legal power to accept a TEN for tomorrow morning as valid unless it was served before 14th August. They can of course decide to turn a blind eye to people selling without alcohol without legal authority, but they cannot make it lawful.

Dear @michaelgove, quick question. Exactly how are licensing authorities supposed to circumvent the Licensing Act 2003 and allow pubs who haven’t applied in time for a TEN, to serve earlier than their premises licence allows them to on Sunday morning? #Lionesses
When inflation was getting higher it was down to global factors. Now it is falling it is down to the Government’s actions…🤔
Very sorry to hear that Cllr Andy Roberts has passed away. @myworcester has lost two incredibly decent and sensible Councillors this year with Cllr Simon Cronin also passing away in May. Both were good men whose wisdom and hard work will be much missed.
The impact of this latest U-turn is being vastly overstated by both Govt and some trade bodies. The vast majority of pubs and bars are permitted to make off-sales in any case! Much more action is needed from Govt to help our struggling hospitality sector.
This will surprise literally nobody.

Unless the pub’s licence already permits both on and off sales, which is probably the case for over 90% of pubs.
Pubs that wish to keep serving takeaway alcohol will need permission from their local councils.
