I’m 78 years old & have lived through many differing governments including the Labour ‘winter of discontent’, Callaghan ordered from his holidays by the IMF, Blair making up excuses to attack Iraq, now I can say that this current government is the worse I’ve ever experienced.

UK taxpayers fund an ave. annual payment of 27% of each public sector worker’s salary to their pension, costing £46bn. Aligning public sector pensions with private sector ones would save taxpayers £37bn a year. Rather than remove the triple lock why doesn’t Andy Burnham do this?

I want Kemi Badenoch as the next prime minister. She’s strong, gutsy, determined and she’ll get things done.
Finally somebody who isn’t afraid to say it like it is, take the tough decisions necessary and tackle the important issues. She’ll cut taxes to help us all.

What makes Andrew Neil so much better than other political journalists and interviewers? He's more interested in the facts than the politicians, and bothers to know them.
Andrew Neil’s Brexit reality check on BBC Question Time.
In a nutshell:
Rejoiners are ignoring the huge political wind of change sweeping Europe and the UK v Germany/ France/ Italy growth rates make a nonsense of their Mickey Mouse economic arguments too.

🚨 I BACK KEMI ON THIS ONE! 👀
If taxpayers are funding your benefits because you’re fit to work but choosing not to, I don’t think those benefits should be used to buy cigarettes, alcohol or gamble.
The Conservatives’ proposed “Back to Work” card would restrict spending on exactly those things for certain long-term claimants.
If the money is there to provide a safety net, it should be used as a safety net.
??!!

If people have accumulated wealth by creating businesses and jobs, inventing new stuff, investing in people and enterprises — and all the while paid their taxes as they got better off — have they not more than met whatever debt they owe the ‘institutions and public services’ — many, many times over?
Replying to @afneil
Piketty’s point is actually pretty straightforward: a country can impose a progressive wealth tax itself, but needs an exit mechanism so people can’t simply move abroad after decades of benefiting from that country’s institutions and public services and thereby avoid the tax.
Whether you agree with the policy is another question, but the argument is hardly incoherent.

.@ZackPolanski: "We know if we taxed 1% on assets of £10m or 2% on assets of £1bn or more, we could be raising between £15-£24bn.. & just as importantly, we would stop the hoarding of assets. Its that hoarding of assets that's creating the inequality in this country" 🎯
