UEFA are now investigating TWO alleged incidents arising from Irelandโ€™s Nations League games against Israel. The first relates to allegations of racist abuse directed towards Adam Idah and James Abankwah from Israeli supporters during Irelandโ€™s win in Debrecen. Now, UEFA are also looking into the alleged spitting incident involving Irelandโ€™s Head of Athletic Performance Damien Doyle at half-time of Sundayโ€™s 1-1 draw. Doyle alleged that an Israeli player spat at him as both teams made their way off the pitch, with a confrontation involving players and staff following. UEFA will assess the officialsโ€™ reports before determining what disciplinary action, if any, should follow. It adds another chapter to an extraordinary and extremely tense international window between the two nations. Heimir Hallgrรญmsson has already said he does not believe Ireland and Israel should be drawn against each other again, while the FAI has previously formally requested Israelโ€™s suspension from UEFA competitions. It will be very interesting to see how both matters develop and what position the UEFA takes in the coming weeks.
