YC launched ObsessionDB today. We're in the F26 batch.
If you self-host ClickHouse®, one node stops being enough, or it dies and you spend hours restoring from backup. Managed providers quiet the pager, then the bill climbs faster than your data.
We keep the data in S3 and scale compute separately. Customers who moved cut their bill by 40%, and their queries got faster.

Interesting fact: as of today, this is powered by the most efficient and practical PIR scheme.
Under the hood, there is a ciphertext compression mechanism called packing.
A paper came out a month ago that optimized the packing throughput by 5x compared to the prior state of the art. It’s called ReInsPIRe.
The buffer introduced by the speed up has allowed us to reduce parameters controlling decryption correctness. The security parameters stay the same.
With more room for noise, we applied a number of tricks such as rounding encryption at the client/server boundaries, which reduced total bandwidth.
There are also GPUs involved for the matrix-vector multiplication of the database by the client query.
The results are sub 200KB total per-query bandwidth and sub 50ms server time on a 1.88 GB database.
The wallet PIR databases are sharded into chunks of under 500 MB. So, in production, the server time and bandwidth are even smaller.

Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk.
• 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active.
It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks.
• State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
• Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure.
• Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately.
Open weights release end of October.

Honored to be speaking at Zcash Zummit on building a Zcash wallet that requires zero knowledge about zero knowledge.
See you at the Network State Conference!
It’s important for your future that you understand Zcash. You can’t have zero knowledge about zero knowledge.
Thus, this year's Network State Conference will include a Zcash Zummit, featuring Zcash leaders Zooko Wilcox (Shielded Labs), Sean Bowe (Tachyon), Eli Ben-Sasson (StarkWare), Josh Swihart (Zodl), Josh Lee (Vizor), Dev Ojha (Zakura), Evan Forbes (Valar Group), Maxime Desalle (Winklevoss Capital), and Tom Howard (Zcash Labs).
In-person attendees will even receive some free ZEC. So: come to Singapore on October 9.

The stealth company I co-founded has a name: Hadronic. Java has a strong future, AI and agents are here to stay, and the best way to predict this future is to invent it. Why, and who we are hiring: emmanuelbernard.com/blog/202…

My unofficial Starlink plugin is officially listed on the Omarchy Plugin Marketplace. Check it out if you have Starlink and want to keep track of your @Starlink stats in real-time on @OmarchyLinux. Thanks, again @dhh for the awesome OS!

🛡️🛡️🛡️Shielded Zcash transactions are now available in Ledger Wallet desktop 🛡️🛡️🛡️
I personally committed to this one. It took far longer than I expected, but it is now delivered, and that is what matters.
Privacy here is not a server setting. To keep your shielded balance private, the scanning and the transaction building happen on your machine: your unified viewing key is stored locally and is never shared with anyone, including us. That is exactly what made the integration trickier.
When it comes to signing the TX, the ZKP is computed on your machine (it's much faster with Ironwood now 🚀), and then the transaction is signed on your device, on a screen you can trust.
Make sure your Ledger Wallet Desktop and Zcash app are up-to-date, and you're good to interact with Ironwood!
Privacy is normal ✊
Stay safe.

I’m still looking for my next opportunity 👋
Primarily interested in CTO, Head of Engineering, Tech Lead, Engineering Manager or Architect roles in DeFi, crypto, trading, stablecoins/payments or fintech.
If you’re building something interesting, let’s talk 🙏
huge
one of the biggest things missing from zec has been ledger not having shielded zec support
with this, the shielded pool will go up in size, which will increase total anonymity, which will reduce risk for larger and larger deposits
trillions
Announcing our funding agreement with @Ledger.
The agreement supports the work required to integrate the new Zcash Ironwood pool into Ledger devices.
As a result of this agreement, Zcash coin holders will be able to use their ledger devices to self-custody their Zcash in the latest Ironwood pool.
We are committing USD 80,000 toward this integration and are excited about the impact this will create for the Zcash coin holders.

Just installed @OmarchyLinux after spending 20y on Ubuntu/Fedora. Dual booted alongside Ubuntu and still migrating my workloads and setup but it's now my primary OS. I'd recommend anyone running Linux to try it out. It's been a breeze of fresh air with loads of little things making the experience amazing out of the box! Thanks @dhh and team for the work on this!

Soleur now runs on Devin CLI — the fourth supported harness alongside Claude Code, Grok Build, and Codex. /soleur:go classifies your request and runs the matching skill in-session.
Been using @herdrdev for the past couple weeks to build @soleur_ai and I truly love it. Workspaces and local + remote session management is done beautifully. Keep up the great work!

Soleur now runs on Grok Build. Use the same company-wide agent workflows and shared knowledge base in xAI's coding environment, with your working context carried across the tools you use.
