There's an idea called "Semantic Diffusion", that ideas become broadened, altered, or diluted over time. One of my ideas that caught on is the idea of a "Deployment Pipeline". I meant something quite specific but it has come to mean something else... 1/14 #Thread

The advance of LLMs and other AI tools is a rare opportunity to radically upend the way we talk and think about software development, and change our industry for the better. The way we have traditionally talked about software centers on writing code, solving technical problems.

This strange tweet got >25k retweets. The author sounds confident, and he uses lots of hex and jargon. There are red flags though... like what's up with the DEI stuff, and who says "stack trace dump"? Let's take a closer look... 🧵1/n

This is what went wrong, the delivery model for kernel space modules, should avoid direct production injection of updates, and go through a more thorough testing in preprod before deployment. It was done with Rocky and Debian months ago. neowin.net/news/crowdstrike-…

Most of my coding life was Java (@ApacheFlink), including all the unholy stuff of Unsafe, custom class loading, bytecode rewriting, etc. I dove into TypeScript/JavaScript for @restatedev SDKs and was pretty surprised. What I (dis)like about JS/TS, from a hardcore Java guy: 🧵

The `xz` package backdoor is just the tip of the iceberg. There's a CONSTANT low-level stream of malware and spyware being uploaded to npm, PyPI, and Go registries. I want to share a few examples from the 20,000+ malicious packages we detected so far:

I fell for Apple’s misleading numbers. It’s actually WAY WORSE. The $310k is MONTHLY. 8 million installs would cost $3.7 MILLION
Under Apple’s new terms for the EU, users installing an app now costs the devs €0.50. For an app with 8 million installs, it’s over $310k a year in fees, even if the app is free.
