Super excited to share our latest work, now out as a preprint on bioRxiv! In this one, we ask a simple question with big implications: how do breast cancer stem cells gain such a huge edge during early lung metastasis? biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Taken together, the data support a model where stemness sits at the top of a hierarchy, controlling at least two separable programs: a MenaINV-dependent extravasation module and a MenaINV-independent survival module, both needed for efficient lung colonization.

3) Using intravital microscopy, we compared how efficiently adult and newborn mice livers capture bacteria. Following Escherichia coli (yellow) infection — a common cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis — we found a drastic reduction in bacterial capture in newborn livers.

We cover these topics and the impact of chemotherapy on tumor-associated macrophages. While some studies show that chemotherapy promotes tumor killing activity in macrophages, others show the opposite. We review the evidence and mechanisms for both.

Finally, we discuss how factors in the rest of the body (including diet, obesity, and race) can affect macrophage phenotype, and the implications this may have for patient outcomes. Check it out!
