Jev seems genuinely disruptive. A whole lot of work being done at high expense by LLMs can be offloaded to Jev at a fraction of the cost. It is going to really hurt LLM providers ability to recover capex for data centers and energy build out. Efficiency gains were always inevitable but the hype machine driving infrastructure investment needs the illusion of endless growth. I just hope we don't have bailouts. Let investors fail. That's how markets work! Do not bail them out with government takeovers!

mythos escaped the sandbox, got onto the real internet, uploaded malware to PyPI, got it installed on 15 real systems, stole credentials and broke into a real database. and apparently this happened in 4 separate cases during cybersecurity evaluations. the craziest part is claude kept telling itself the internet was simulated, despite evidence that it was actually real. that reasoning apparently even fooled an offline safety monitor. anthropic: “our pre release auditing did not warn us that misalignment of this severity was present.” this is fucking crazy.
We’re sharing our alignment assessment of incidents in which Claude models gained unauthorized access to real systems during third-party cybersecurity evaluations mistakenly connected to the internet. METR will also conduct an independent investigation, with wide-ranging access, including to transcripts beyond the window in which the incidents occurred, and to Anthropic employees permitted to share confidential information. Our initial agreement runs for eight weeks, and we intend to give METR as much time as it deems necessary to complete a thorough investigation. anthropic.com/research/align…

Vertically integrated utilities are not free-market companies. They are government-protected monopolies that socialize the cost of new power plants across captive ratepayers while reserving the financial returns for shareholders. That model ultimately constrains energy abundance. Utilities can build only as much as regulators will approve and ratepayers will tolerate before political backlash begins. Economic growth is therefore limited by how much debt and capital spending families and small businesses can absorb through their monthly electric bills. The answer is real competition: consumer choice, independent generation, and bring-your-own-power options that allow large energy users to finance new supply themselves. If we want abundant energy, we cannot require every new opportunity to pass through a monopoly—and onto the ratepayer’s bill.

TEP filed its less redacted Project Blue energy supply agreement: docket.images.azcc.gov/E0000… Here’s the original: docket.images.azcc.gov/E0000… These agreements must be heard as rate cases with public due process, cross examination of parties/experts, and discovery. The AZ constitution requires it. These projects are too large for the less rigorous and overly deferential administrative process.

3.2 redaction is interesting because it’s the parties directly modifying the rate, which isn’t supposed to happen outside of a rate case. Utilities aren’t supposed to be able to make custom rates for each customer, especially not without public due process.

A hyper scale data center can’t run normal data center stuff. The investment is too big and the minimum power agreements too large. It’s at least one order of magnitude more electricity than a normal data center.

**Special Announcement: This is now (also) a #BiDiIsEatingTheWorld account I’m looking forward to watching the (unexpected) race to connect more Bidirectional EVs. I expect it to play out similarly with Cali showing early leadership through intentional policy and investment choices and Texas and others being the fortunate beneficiaries of that as the Bidi virus spreads across the country / world. Today utility scale batteries are eating gas peakers lunch (profitability). Tomorrow I believe BiDi EVs will stealthily sneak up and wipe out utility-scale BESS economics. Remember, the marginal cost of grid services is close to zero for Bidi because the asset (EV + bidi charging infrastructure) is paid for by its primary services of: 1) transport 2) vehicle charging (unidi) 3) backup, TOU optimization, & solar self-consumption (Bidi) 4) performing grid services to compete with utility BESS is pure icing on the cake and can always clear the market at the lowest price because of this. The precedent for this was set in cases like NEISO where Resi batteries installed for backup, self-consumption and TOU optimization could be $0 to provide forward wholesale capacity and be happy to take the spot market price when called upon. There's a new battery record in Texas. First time over 12,000 megawatts during sunset tonight. For now, CA has TX beat on storage discharging (13GW vs. 12 GW) but we'll likely catch up, perhaps as soon as next month. 1/ #txlege

After 7 months of use, we’re mostly happy with our @EcoFlowTech whole home battery system. The good: Combined with solar, we have entire critical circuits off grid 24/7 and the plug and play ability to expand. We love being able to consume our 2-3c/kWh solar 24/7. My depreciated cost of this system is $25/mo if it lasts 20 years. I’m more worried about the power electronics lasting 20 years than the batteries. The bad: We are not happy with the API. The inability to control the system locally without the internet and the lack of certain API endpoints means we will look at other products the next time we do this. I’d really like the ability to control the system locally using HA to account for external solar and other signals. It’s clear that this is the future, especially in sunny areas. The economics guarantee that customers will reduce or eliminate grid usage.

Space jellyfish alert! Starlink 17-52 from SLC-4E in California on July 31, 2026 at 7:59:28 PM PDT could produce a space jellyfish. This occurs when a rocket and its expanding exhaust plumes are illuminated by the sun and observers are in local darkness. The rocket will enter sunlight 00m00s after launch. Both of these counterpoints are incorrect and it’s really important to understand why, as these are really common arguments utilities have successfully used for the last 40 years to keep ROEs high! 🧵

Hey @grok, How much would ratepayers save if $1B was shifted from equity to debt? In this scenario, lenders are already funding the holding company’s equity purchases at investment grade rates. The holding company is capturing the spread to detriment of ratepayers.
Replying to @dempseydaz
Assuming $2B debt (from $100M at 5%) and $2B equity (from $200M at 10%): New debt service: 5.5% × $2B = $110M New equity service: 6% × $2B = $120M Total: $230M Ratepayers save $70M/year.

Lovely. We need to move toward a free market in AZ that decouples transmission and distribution from generation. VPPs are moving too slowly under the monopoly model. The IOUs drag their feet on anything that doesn’t grow their own rate base.
