FAREWELL TRENT RIVERS 🔴🔵😈🏆 Another member of Melbourne's drought-breaking 2021 Premiership team departs the club, with Trent Rivers heading west to join the West Coast Eagles. From the moment he arrived at Melbourne, Trent established himself as a talented, courageous and dependable young footballer who quickly became an important part of our backline. With his composure under pressure, ability to read the play and willingness to take the game on, Trent developed into a valuable and versatile member of the team. But it will always be his contribution to that unforgettable 2021 season that holds a special place in the hearts of Melbourne supporters. To be part of the team that ended 57 years of Premiership heartache is something that can never be taken away. Trent played his part in delivering a moment that generations of Demons supporters had waited a lifetime to experience. While it's disappointing to see another member of that historic team move on, we wish Trent nothing but success as he begins the next chapter of his football career. Thank you, Trent, for your contribution to the Melbourne Football Club and for helping deliver the greatest moment many of us have experienced as Demons supporters. Wherever your football journey takes you, you'll always be part of the team that brought the Premiership cup home after 57 long years. A Premiership Demon forever. Once a Demon, always a Demon. ❤️💙

FAREWELL JACK VINEY 🔴🔵😈🏆 Some players wear the jumper. Others embody everything it stands for. Jack Viney is one of those players. From the moment he arrived at the Melbourne Football Club, following in the footsteps of his father Todd, Jack carried the weight of a famous family name and the expectations of a passionate supporter base. But he didn't just live up to that legacy. He created one of his own. Through some of the darkest days in our club's history, Jack was there. When wins were hard to come by, when hope was in short supply and when the future seemed uncertain, there was one thing you could always count on. Jack Viney would give absolutely everything for the red and blue. He never took a backward step. Never shirked a contest. Never asked a teammate to do something he wasn't prepared to do himself. He was tough, courageous, uncompromising and fiercely loyal. The sort of footballer every supporter loves and every teammate wants standing beside them. And when Melbourne finally climbed from the depths of despair to the summit of the AFL in 2021, there was something incredibly fitting about seeing Jack Viney become a Premiership player. After everything he had endured, everything he had sacrificed and everything he had given to this football club, nobody deserved that moment more. For those of us who lived through the difficult years, Jack represents so much more than a Premiership. He represents the fight, the resilience and the belief that helped bring this great club back to where it belonged. It's difficult to imagine Jack Viney wearing anything other than a Melbourne jumper. And while seeing him in West Coast colours will undoubtedly be strange and emotional for so many of us, nothing can diminish what he has given to our club. Football is a business, and players come and go. But some leave a mark that will never fade. Jack Viney will always be a Melbourne Premiership hero, a warrior of the red and blue and a part of this club's history. Thank you, Jack. For the courage, the leadership, the loyalty, the sacrifices and the memories. You gave us everything you had, and we'll never forget it. Once a Demon, always a Demon. ❤️💙

Thankfully we have Tim Lamb and Jason Taylor, otherwise we’d be royally cooked. But far out, Dan Taylor and Co. must sort out this home base debacle ASAP. It’s such a blight on our club.

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 | 𝗥𝗱 𝟮𝟯 𝘃𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗲 On paper, Melbourne vs Port Adelaide this weekend looks like a no-brainer. The Demons are coming off a thrilling, high-standard win over Fremantle last Saturday, a side still very much the premiership favourite. It was the highest score against them for the season. That result not only kept Melbourne’s top-six push alive, it put the double chance firmly into play. Hours later in Sydney, Port Adelaide hit a new low. Already ravaged by injuries, the Power were blown out of the water by the Swans in their worst defeat of 2026, and left the SCG with even more casualties and a suspension to boot. They have now lost five in a row. Add in Melbourne’s new comfort away from home since the bye, and even at Adelaide Oval, it should be all systems go for the Demons as they charge toward September. Not so fast. This AFL season is an enigma, and it punishes certainty ... 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 👇 demonland.com/forums/topic/6…

𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 | 𝗥𝗱 𝟮𝟮 𝘃𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 Steven King is not your man if what you seek is a safe harbour and calm waters. From the moment he took the helm at Melbourne, he promised something altogether different: edge-of-the-seat adventure, boldness in the face of danger, and a willingness to sail into the storm rather than wait for it to pass. demonland.com/forums/topic/6…

Another encouraging part of Melbourne’s win: The Demons lost clearances 43–32, then beat the AFL’s No.1 post-clearance side over the previous 10 games 94–60 in post-clearance contested possessions and 62–38 in post-clearance ground balls. They beat Fremantle at their own strength. #DemonSpirit #AFLDeesFreo @The_DeeBrief

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 | 𝗥𝗱 𝟮𝟮 𝘃𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 The AFL has unwittingly handed Melbourne a fascinating and unique opportunity to finish its 2026 home-and-away season in style as the Demons battle to secure a place in the all-important top six. At the start of the season, the task was considered a mission impossible. demonland.com/forums/topic/6…

𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 | 𝗥𝗱 𝟮𝟭 𝘃𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 The disappointment of the loss to Geelong proved to be one of the catalysts for Melbourne’s response in the crucial clash at People First Stadium, where so much was at stake. Having lost one of those proverbial eight point games, a defeat that all but extinguished hopes of a top four finish and perhaps even a place in the top six, the Demons were suddenly staring down the prospect of a Wild Card final. demonland.com/forums/topic/6…

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 | 𝗥𝗱 𝟮𝟭 𝘃𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 Five months ago, it seemed unthinkable. The Gold Coast Suns had opened their 2026 campaign with a 56-point demolition of Geelong, instantly installing themselves as premiership favourites. Since then, they have lost consecutive games to half the competition and tumbled out of finals contention, with four rounds remaining before the September fixture is settled. demonland.com/forums/topic/6…
