I mean i bought my ticket for like $50 and didnt know it was being filmed
I've written about the Cameron Winter Carnegie Hall thing before and what i find most interesting is that, until recently, witnessing seminal cultural events was sort of a luck of circumstance. You didn't know that Dylan at Newport or the Royal Albert Hall would become what it was or Tupac at the House of Blues would be that moving or that the Daft Punk Alive tour was going to be something everyone talked about for the next two decades.
But with this concert, everyone was sort of told "this is going to be history-making" before it even happened which turned it into this odd futures market that people paid thousands of dollars to buy into. For the first time you could ensure you were there at some culturally significant event. It's a bizarre new world out there, and I say this as someone who likes Geese and Cameron Winter and this concert recording!
I find generational discourse mostly useless but I do find it kind of funny that millennials think they won’t have the exact same relationship with their own grandchildren
It's fascinating that many Boomer grandparents seem to want to be more involved in their kids/grandkids lives—but only insofar as they are the ones being entertained and catered to.
I saw a post from a grandmother who moved away from her son and his young family. She felt they weren't spending enough time with her to justify living close, so she moved away and now spends her time traveling.
Many grandparents in the comments also lamented that their adult children are "too busy" for them, and that they never get invited to stuff. That their children don't "make time" for them.
I found this so interesting, because these are largely the same people who insist they shouldn't have to be "babysitters" (hot take: it's not babysitting to watch your own grandkids).
So instead of recognizing that their adult children are busy, and offering to help ease their burden by watching the kids and coming over and help clean or cook, they just huff that they aren't being entertained by their busy working children whom they refuse to help (by spending time with their own grandkids).
Incredible stuff.
Hey guys! Just made a song thats oogey gooey slinky back arch pop about a handsome Canadian i want to suck dry. Cant wait for you guys to hear it!
We’ve done this discourse before but what’s happening inside movie theaters now is totally egregious

.@therealmikeyrox finds in Eric Hobsbawm's "Age of" series not only a rip-roaring narrative that tells us much about the origins of our times, but also inspiration for historians working today, when popular engagement with history is needed more than ever.
