It is a self-made disaster that the leaders, MPs, GPEX and CEO of the party all walked blithely into. Jewish Greens Officers spent months telling them the motion was damaging, but I guess none of them thought we should be listened to.

This is why the Green Party needs to do something different, outside its policy structures to annul this motion, eg a referendum of members on the policy.
EXC: The Green Party won’t be able to change its Zionism is racism policy until 2028. On Friday, Zack Polanski said he wanted to pass a motion that would amend the policy’s demand for a single Palestinian state - implicitly calling for the abolition of Israel - at the ‘earliest possible opportunity’. Except what he’s not letting on is that under the party’s own rules, that won’t be for another two years. A motion is ruled ‘out of order’ by the Standing Orders Committee if it seeks to ‘significantly amend the principles passed in a policy motion less than 1 year and 9 months previously’. It means any member who proposes a motion that would ‘significantly’ attempt to water down the Zionism is racism policy is blocked until the party’s autumn conference in 2028. Those close to Polanski argue what constitutes a ‘significant’ change is subjective and up to the SOC. However, a party veteran warned that it would ‘obviously’ be a significant change and feared the potential backlash from entryists who they predicted would seek to replace Polanski.

I'm racking my brains, trying to remember the last time I saw *anyone* from the Greens put environmental issues front and centre. You know, the mounting climate change catastrophe they used to - quite correctly - claim was a threat to civilization itself. Instead, we get... this: – at Cardiff, Wales

My Green MP in Brighton @sianberry has released a strong letter saying she wants to “fix” the racist ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion and apologising for the damage it’s done. It CANNOT be fixed. It needs to be utterly rejected. This did not happen by accident. The extreme hyperbole around Israel came from the old guard too. She rallied around Mothin Ali when his despicable comments on October 7 were revealed. She never supported us in Brighton when we were under attack. This is as much her fault as anyone else. Face that and it might be fixed.

The Green Party leader and anti-zionism fig leaf, Zack Polanski just lost a north london election to a woman nobody has heard of. This is a resounding message that whatever your jew hating echo chamber says, the electorate doesnt back antisemitism.

Thank you for such a clear message demonstrating it's possible to hold sympathy for both Palestinians and Israelis, while condemning the situation and hoping for a better future.

A young Geordie lad moved to London and went to Harrods looking for a job. The manager asked "Do you have any sales experience?" The young man answered "Aye, I was a canny salesman back in Newcastle." The manager liked the Geordie so he gave him the job. His first day on the job was challenging and busy, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the manager came down and asked "OK,...... so how many sales did you make today?" The Geordie said "Just the one like" The manager groaned and continued "Just one? Our sales people average 20 or 30 sales a day. How much was the sale for?". "£124,237.64" replied the Geordie. The manager choked and exclaimed "£124,237.64, what the hell did you sell him?" "Well, forst I selt him a smaal fish hook, then a medium fish hook, and then I selt him a new fishing rod. Then I asked him where he was gannin' fishing and he said doon at the coast, so I telt him he would need a boat, so we went doon tiv the boat department and I selt him that twin-engined Power Cat. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him doon tiv the car sales and I selt him the 4 x 4 Suzuki". The manager, incredulous, said "You mean to tell me....a guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and 4x4?" "Nah, nah......he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his lady friend like and I said......... 'Well, since ya weekend's fucked, you might as well gan fishin."

Many of us remember exactly where we were on 7 October 2023. Three years later, I don’t think any of us could have imagined how much that day, and everything since, would change us. Our lives, our relationships, the way we see the world and each other. So much grief. So much that cannot be undone. I wonder how much of ourselves we have lost along the way. The last few weeks a prayer written by Roee Kibrik, has taken up residence in my head: The seeds of our deeds, lying in the furrows, are waiting for rain. The paths of our shared life are pleading for our footsteps. Let us walk in peace, with open hearts, and recognise our own face in the other. Good days lie ahead of us. Some days those last words feel almost painful to believe. Today especially. But we cannot stop believing them.

The Green Party has never called for any other existing state to be abolished, just the world’s only Jewish one. Extremism in action.

It will never stop amazing me that people who consider themselves pro refugee, pro immigrant and general Pro Good Guys Of the Left sneeringly describe the half-dead Holocaust survivors who went to Israel after having been so failed by Europe as “settler colonialists”

A dark day in British politics, but there is silver lining for Labour and Lib Dems who will be poaching the few sensible Green Party members remaining. Today marks the Greens’ first major descent into irrelevance. They are now an extremist party and will be a busted flush. Bookmark this tweet.

BREAKING: The Green Party of England and Wales voted today, 1,022 to 813, to declare Zionism a form of racism and to treat it through the same disciplinary process as any other racism complaint. Then it went further. Members were offered an amendment that said this policy could not be used to discipline anyone for belonging to a synagogue that is a Zionist (meaning supporting Israel’s right to exist.) They rejected it, 1,026 to 684. A British political party was asked, in plain words, to promise it would not investigate Jews because of the synagogue they go to, and it refused. Most British Jews are Zionists. The Institute for Jewish Policy Research found that 65% of British Jews identify as Zionist and only 10% as anti-Zionist. Most mainstream synagogues in this country describe themselves as Zionist. So the Green Party has now written a rule that labels the large majority of Jews in Britain as racists and leaves their places of worship open to disciplinary complaints. If any party voted that its members could be investigated for attending a mosque, a gurdwara or a Black church, there would be national outrage and the leader would be finished by Monday. When it is Jews, it gets called a debate about foreign policy. The same motion calls for a single Arab majority state in place of Israel. That is a demand to dismantle the one country that took in my family after they were driven out of Iraq and Tunisia. This is antisemitism, voted through by a party that wants to govern Britain. Zack Polanski is standing in Holborn and St Pancras on Thursday, and he should be asked whether Jewish members of his party are safe from being investigated for where they pray.

Will the Green Party have serious power, even win a general election? Probably not. But have they just shifted the Overton Window, making it that bit more acceptable for political parties and the general public to be openly antisemitic? Absolutely yes

The amendment to safeguard Jewish members was defeated: 684 in favour, 1,026 against. More than a thousand delegates voted against those protections. This is a deliberate rejection of Jewish members’ right to participate without discrimination. A party that votes against protecting Jews while debating whether their self-determination is racist is practising the racism it claims to oppose.

My husband @rufusbound went to the new Gail's in Archway during his lunchbreak today simply because it was attacked for a 2nd time by mouth breathing antisemites. It was a little after lunchtime but it was still doing good business. Visit your nearest Gail's this week! 🥐 🍞 ☕
For the second time in a few days, a new branch of bakery Gail’s in Archway has been vandalised by ‘pro Palestinians’. The chain was founded by a British/ Israeli Jewish woman but has been majority owned by American venture capitalists Bain since 2021. The haters will say it’s because Bain buys shares in Israeli technology but so does almost every other venture capitalist. They are attacking this chain because it’s got a tangential link to Jews. They say they are for ‘local’ companies but this site used to be a Subway. It is telling that there have been no arrests from the last lot of vandalism. This is about racists trying to remove a Jewish connected business from an area. This will not help Palestinians. The ‘pro Palestinians’ are racists. @OurFightUk @StopTheHate_UK

Fuck me! Will Shakespeare had the measure of inhumanity to strangers 400 years ago which Sir Ian McKellen so effortlessly and so beautifully articulated 400 years later.
