“We Thought You’d Never Ask” — insights from the Health of Elite Retired Australian Female Athletes Survey.
We surveyed 199 retired elite Australian female athletes across 31 sports.

1. Anxiety sx were similar to the gen pop, but depression sx were less likely
2. Atrial fibrillation/flutter was reported at high rates
3. Knee and back pain were the most common ongoing injury issues, with knee injury most often influencing retirement
The message from retired female athletes was clear:
They want proactive, holistic health support during and after sport — and systems that recognise sex- and gender-specific health needs.
