Henry L. Marsh III was a mentor, fighter, & visionary.I sat with him countless times, learning & preserving his story. His passing is a loss not just for Virginia, but for the movement for justice. Today, I feel the weight of a new era—we must carry his light forward.#RestInPower

I’m so grateful for the calm of the elders. My father didn’t blink when he heard the election results today. Born in 1957. Served in the Army. Knows what it means to put your life on the line for America, while often being treated as a second-class citizen. As a millennial, I used to think he was cynical or lacked optimism. Now I realize it was just steadiness— an ability to dream soberly without losing yourself when the setbacks inevitably come. If you need it, talk to an elder today.

My article, Universal Public Defense, found a home in @HarvardCRCL, vol. 60 (forthcoming 2025). How might mandated UPD, where everyone is req’d to receive a state funded defender regardless of income, change the criminal adjudication system? I welcome comments & feedback 🙏🏾

We are thrilled to be joined by two constitutional law scholars, Professors @lawproflain and @dcwing_ from the @URLawSchool to discuss the Supreme Court's recent ruling on presidential immunity. The conversation explores how the 2024 SCOTUS decision in Trump v. United States builds on earlier cases like Nixon v. Fitzgerald and Clinton v. Jones, granting former presidents greater immunity from prosecution, even for potentially criminal acts performed in office. The professors delve into the broader implications of the ruling, the balance of powers between the executive branch and other government bodies, and the unsettling possibilities for future presidents to push the boundaries of their authority without legal consequence. “The very serious function of racism is distraction.” We can’t let this lawsuit derail us from what we do best: produce trailblazing scholarship, make the law accessible to our students, and challenge racism & sexism in the legal academia with our very existence .

Ask about Maggie Walker, Jackson Ward and its Black Wall Street in Richmond, VA… such a rich history
Maggie Walker started a department store allowing Black customers to shop with dignity: enter through the main doors instead of a side entrance, try on clothing, to eat at lunch counters and she hired exclusively Black women to work as clerks.
She became the first Black woman to establish and become president of a bank in the United States—the Saint Luke Penny Savings Bank in Richmond.
Giving a talk today at the Historic Douglass High School in Leesburg, VA commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Brown- “The Impact of Brown v Board Today.” Looking forward to participating in this important conversation. @URLawSchool
