hate to say it, so have avoided saying it here, but it’s becoming harder to ignore that the willingness to recognize genocide is proportional to how successful the genocide is. they want the functional equivalent of land acknowledgements they do not want to confront génocidaires

Hard to overstate how bad this is and how bad it is that the Democratic Party is virtually silent about it.

🔸 Palestinian boy destroys his kites, fearing they’ll bring Israeli bombs Muhammad Ahmad al-Mufti, a boy in Gaza whose father was earlier killed by Israeli forces while seeking aid, tore apart the paper kites he had made himself, after hearing Israeli Defense Minister Katz might strike over the kites, Gaza Relief Committee’s Eyad Amawi told Drop Site. Furious and in tears, he mocked the Israeli leaders he blamed as he destroyed them. “So that Netanyahu is satisfied,” he said. “So that Katz is satisfied. So that Trump is satisfied.” Minister Katz threatened a “forceful” response to Palestinian kites landing in areas across the border, and said Israel would treat them the same as drones. “They want to deprive us of the thing we love,” al-Mufti said, breaking down. “I swear my heart is breaking.”

Mahmoud al-Arda — the freed Palestinian prisoner who masterminded the 2021 Gilboa Prison breakout by digging a tunnel with a spoon, now exiled in Egypt — is watching The Shawshank Redemption for the first time. 😸🤍 I wholeheartedly admire Mahmoud Al-Arda btw! 😻❤️

New article with Maya Wind on the genealogy of Israel Studies, which continues to amass considerable support and resources across North American campuses and beyond (backed, as ever, by the governments of Israel and the USA).

There’s a huge misunderstanding going around this site about what the AAUP is up to. The decision to endorse El Sayed isn’t a momentary caprice driven by a burst of partisan enthusiasm. It’s the playing out of a strategy that candidates for leadership presented to members in 2024
Stable trust in AAUP is not a structural constant of the universe. It’s a result of actions over many years, specifically not doing stuff like this. AAUP has no special expertise on this race. Its self-politicization will damage the organization with no effect on elections.
