E*** M*** is willing to let disabled folks die to drive profits to billionaires. So what do we do about it? Despite all we’ve built here – we believe it’s time to build disability community in new places.

We know many in the disability community use Twitter to connect and organize. We respect those who choose to stay. However, DCL can’t stay on a platform that promotes and profits from the deaths and suffering of our community.

It’s time to create better online and offline spaces to invest our time and build community. We'll continue to review our presence on other platforms in the coming months. We hope to build with you soon elsewhere!

Mask bans are invasive, unnecessary, and impractical. They force people to risk confrontations with law enforcement and financial burdens simply to protect their health. (1/2) #NoNYMaskBan #StopMaskBans #NYC #Disabled

I cannot stop thinking about every disabled person who can’t evacuate these SoCal fires, whether it’s because they physically can’t leave or they don’t have the resources to. When we say our systems are designed to leave disabled folks behind to die, this is a prime example.

There's been a lot of posts lately, remembering a weirdly romanticized version of the political activism spurred by the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 1990s. Everyone likes to talk about Larry Kramer and ACT UP, but how many actually remember the rest of the story? 🧵

As someone who has chronic pain I can attest to this
I think it's interesting to see various ableist figures decide they understand chronic pain and disability as sources of radicalization

We all have a right to clean air and masks. Disabled folks have a right to protect ourselves as the government has refused to fund air filtration standards. Don’t sacrifice our lives for your surveillance state.
Today NYC Mayor Eric Adams said he hoped recent events would accelerate implementation of a mask ban. Reminder: There is no evidence that mask bans stop crime. Mask bans make cities more unsafe because preventing people from wearing masks increases the spread of diseases.

Around the corner is what would have been #JudyHeumann's 77th birthday. 💙 In her memory, we revisit The Judith Campaign. This film campaign honors Judy's teachings on the value of creating space for #disabled people to share their stories with the world: lnk.to/judithc. In moments of stress—when being heard may be more important than ever—we can lose the ability to communicate in the ways we usually do. Our new resource guides people with speech-related #disabilities & #MentalHealth conditions, allies, & lifeline workers. lnk.to/cstress [Image: A glimpse over the shoulder of Ren, a fat nonbinary person with glasses and a partially shaved head visible, as they type into the AAC app on their smartphone. Hearing reports from Columbia, SC that folks are being denied paratransit rides to the polls because they didn’t book 7 days in advance. Imagine relying on that for groceries, doctors, your vote, your kid’s big recital. Disabled folks deserve reliable, accessible, FREE transit. – at Washington, DC
Just a reminder that disabled people need rides to go grocery shopping, doctor’s offices, to the bar, to the cafe—not just to cast a ballot that impacts you.

Was interviewed on Morning Edition about the prez candidates and disability. It was a longer interview that understandably got cut to 2 minutes, but I’m disappointed that my critiques of the Biden admin on COVID and Gaza were cut. In any case, here it is. npr.org/2024/10/31/nx-s1-516…
