My stance on Israel and the Democratic party is very simple. I have opinions on funding or not funding or sharing or not sharing intelligence. They're not strong enough to crack the top 10 or 20 of my voting priorities. Know what does? Talking about Israel incessantly. Every time an American politician opens their fucking mouth to offer an unnuanced condemnation of Israel the state, the people, not Netanyahu, not a specific policy, do you know who is impacted? American Jews. By collective guilt. I have not felt safe to identify myself as Jewish in public for three years. And everytime a Democrat offers their hot take on Israel, I know it will be many, many years more. My voting priorities are antisemitism. If a politician does not care what impact their careless words about Israel have on my safety, then that's far more pertinent to me than some minutia about the West Bank or the Iron Dome. I am American. I am a Jew. I am a Democrat. I matter. My safety matters. My comfort matters. My ability to participate in civic life without hiding my ethnicity and faith matters. Israel is just one country among many. It will survive with or without America's support. But I am American. I will not.
